Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

congrats! Did you get your acceptance notification today?

Funny story; so I called UThealth to see whether or not my application was looked over because I haven't received a transcript evaluation yet (I'm taking my last class in the summer) and I was basically told that not everyone gets a transcript eval even if they aren't done with all their credits and she asked me to post it on the forum.

They read all of the forums. *nervous laugh

I'm so glad to hear the lovely people at UTHealth are monitoring these boards. It is great that they keep up with our current discussions so they can better perform their job. They are the nicest people and do a thankless job. And if they are reading this I am still waiting on my acceptance notification;)

Homegirl said she JUST received her acceptance so they clearly aren't finished yet.

Like until UT says straight up "nah we're done sending out acceptances and all we have left are waitlists/rejections" then all this is just assumptions from nervous applicants.

Specializes in Pediatric CVICU.
Nothing so far on my end guys. I just got off a 4 hour plane ride and I am still checking my email HAHA this is killing me inside.........I will continue to check it like a crazy person.

This is my 2nd try. I was waitlisted for summer then denied officially 20 days before the summer

program started if anyone was curious. Fall is

definitely more competitive.

Same about being waitlisted for summer! Except this is my 3rd time applying. Hope this is our term 😩

Brandon, I do agree that theirs can be a thankless job. I work a thankless job, and in fact nursing itself can be a thankless job. I think it's nice that you acknowledged that. I have never gotten any negativity from anyone I have talked to at UTH, EVEN though I am sure that they have had to deal with talking to hundred of nervous applicants like us.

Katherine, I am still holding out hope on this end. I do realize that this is all conjecture, but with nowhere else to really turn, what more do we have to hold onto our sanity amidst all of this emotion and nervousness? I try to take these forums with a grain of salt, though. Its a place to release my nervous anxiety through humour (thank you very much), a good sounding board for information, and a good way to offer support to others. As nail-biting as it is, I have to believe like you that it is not over yet. None of us here are UTH.

I'd like to say one last thing before I abandon these forums for the weekend. To any applicants that are worried about the decision etc. and have not received the email they are looking for:

I was listening to NPR this morning and ex-Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was talking about when she was held and tortured by her government as a student for speaking her mind. She said that 'Defeat is a reaction in the face of difficulty.' Just let that sink in.

I started listening to the This Mortal Coil, which is this very orchestral but kind of somber English band, (easy to feel down to) and finishing up my drive to work, and I thought you know what, just stop. This lady put her life on the line for her beliefs and follows it up with defeat being a person's reaction? I almost think that any depression/frustration "because I don't know just yet" that I have pales in comparison to actions that someone like Ms. Rousseff have taken. Man up, I say to myself. I will not let defeat be my reaction in the face of this difficulty. I am smart and capable, as all of you are otherwise we all wouldn't be so invested. We will find a way to be the nurses that we want to be. I sure hope it is with UTH, as I am sure most of you do too.

Let's give UTH the time that they need to finish and just be realistic enough to know the possibilities for each of our futures. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everybody. And I sure hope I see some of you on campus.

Just incase anyone who was accepted missed it. We do have a Facebook page going. UTHSC Houston SON Pacesetter Fall 2017.

Can I ask if you received an email and if so when you got the email?

Yes I received an email on Wednesday the 24th
