Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

P.S. - Those admissions "guidelines" I just stated were not told to me by anyone in admissions. They are just assumptions made by previous cohorts that I've gathered when trying to make sense of the entire process. I could be 100% wrong there.

Me when I come back from the mailbox, from UTHSC Self Service portal and the All Nurses Fall 2017 UTHSC board.

wait, have the summer students really not been told their admission status yet? Doesn't it start in June? Its may 3rd.......

SO I finally got my transcript eval and under the "extra courses not needed to satisfy prerequisites" section it has my microbio lecture and lab courses. But in the actual eval it says I need those classes. I checked on their website and I am taking the correct HCC equivalent class so I'm not sure why it says that. Does anybody have anything similar? Is it because I am taking that class right now?

Yes, the classes that you are currently taking will show up in the "extra courses not needed to satisfy prerequisites" section of the evaluation. I am currently still enrolled in micro and A&p 2 and both of those are in that "extra courses" section. Additionally, next to my "biology" section it says "NO" because these classes have not been completed. As soon as you send an updated transcript, they will be counted toward your prerequisite requirements.

It could be because you are currently taking the course. I have one course pending and on the transcript evaluation it says NO to indicate that the prerequisite is not yet satisfied and then on a different part of the evaluation it lists the course with a suffix of IP which i assume stands for Item Pending.

It means "in progress" LOL

I wondered about this myself, I'm also enrolled in 2402, 2420, and a few others this semester. There is a difference in this admission cycle when compared to other fall admission cycles. They've specifically moved the date from April 15 to June 15 and have stated that they are overhauling their process. I don't think any previous fall boards would give us any clue as to how they are doing things now.

As far as I know, what they have at the time applications are due are what they go off of when making their decisions for acceptance. I have heard that they first look at HESI scores (and I think just the AP score at that), then from whatever cutoff they establish they then go and look at GPAs. From that point they choose their 120 acceptances.

Also, the only for sure date I have heard so far is June 1st - that was a date given to me by a lady in admissions.

You are correct, dickerson. I have spoken to a really helpful lady at UT in admissions who stated that HESI is the first and foremost important aspect of your application. They do not even look at your GPA until you have made the HESI "cut." I do believe, but am not 100% sure, that your A&P score is probably looked at closely. So, basically it doesn't matter how high your GPA is if you didn't do exceptionally well on the HESI, you won't make it to the next round. So, make sure your HESI score is high.

Yes Summer was notified a long time ago...I no because I was denied.

I was on the waiting list for the summer and I received an email yesterday that they were unable to offer admission for summer. Here is the email they sent

Thank you for applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pacesetter program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing for the Summer 2017 term.

At this time, our Summer 2017 class is full. We are no longer able to offer admission from the waiting list.

You are more than welcome to apply for the Spring 2018 term. The application is available on our website UTHealth School of Nursing | Home - The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Nursing.

We are pleased that you are interested in nursing as a career and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Summer students were notified of admissions February 24th. People on the waitlist did not hear anything until May 2nd about getting off the waitlist or being denied. We waited that long to get an email lol
