Hi all!
Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...
Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54
Science GPA: 3.67
HESI: 87.7
Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.
I sure hope so! Are you basing that off of the website or from a conversation with UTH?I was digging through the Spring and Summer 2017 boards, and saw someone saying they spoke with UTH and were told that they use the HESI scores to determine the first round of cuts, and then use the GPA's after that. But who can really know? There was one applicant with a 3.2 Pre-Req and 3.2 Science that got in. It just baffles my mind. One would think that over time the conclusion that more transparency in the admissions process might lead to less phone calls would happen.
But then we would miss out on all this FUN.
This is information we were told at the informational session last month. And they look at each section of the HESI separately, so a high overall score doesn't matter if you performed poorly in just one subject.
Due to my rejection for the Summer cohort I decided to retake the HESI one last time this afternoon. I had mixed results, but overall think it was worth it. Bumped my A&P up from 76 to 88, but unfortunately my vocabulary score dropped from 98 to 88. Overall went from 91 to 93...not that that matters. Will submit my Fall app later tonight and hope for the best.
Thank you, Lewis Collin, for all of that information!! I really appreciate it.
One thing that is a little ambiguous for me, does the cumulative GPA also account for the science GPA? For example, a GPA for all the science classes I have taken including re-takes and that itself is another GPA? Please let me know.
I am hoping for all the best for all of us!
I have two questions, each with multiple parts. I've been trying to get ahold of admissions but they haven't responded to my calls or emails.
1. What classes count as electives? Does it have to be exactly 5 hours? Can I pick the classes I want to count as electives since I have multiple to choose from?
2. Do this spring semester's grades get calculated into the GPA's they look at to make a decision? Or do they just look to see you passed the classes after they are completed?
They don't give enough info on their website!
And just to add to the thread, my stats are:
Overall GPA: 3.56
Nursing Prerequisite GPA: 3.65
Science GPA: 3.0
HESI: 97.6%
A&P: 96%
Reading comprehension:96%
Grammar:98%
Vocab: 98%
Math: 100%
My science only includes two B's since I'm currently enrolled in Micro and A&P2. Kind of annoying but all my other stats are pretty good. I definitely aced the HESI
They definitely DO consider your overall GPA which includes all college coursework. I specifically asked admissions this question. And it is stated on their website. "Applicants will be evaluated on overall academic performance, performance in prerequisites, science courses, and HESI A2 entrance exam."

The mixed information they give out is beyond frustrating. I attended the informational session last month and she clearly said they did not take cumulative GPA into account, but they did say the part about "overall academic performance".

Just about any class other than the pre-requisites can count as electives. They will select the electives from your transcript and they seem to choose ones with the highest grade.

The GPA you have at the time of application is the GPA they base their decision off of. You are responsible for having your transcript sent as soon as you finish the remaining classes.

Great job on the HESI...it's my belief that they put a lot of weight into the HESI score when making the first cut.

Well, but look there is another side to it. It must be a MASSIVE job to vet 900-1200 people. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be more clarity or consistency, but I know how anxiety filled I am about it, and I can only imagine the job of dealing with 500 freaked how nursing students calling in.
