Fall 2010 UCLA MECN applicants share your comments/concerns

Published

Just a reminder for whoever interested in applying to fall 2010 UCLA MECN program, the deadline is Nov. 2, 2009.

Let me share my story. I mailed my application to UCLA SON two weeks ago via certified mail. I thought I could track my package on USPS website. However, it only showed that the postal service received my package and there was no more further info regarding the arrival at UCLA. I panicked and called the USPS three times with three different phone #s. And I went to my local postal office to recall my package. NO LUCK. They told me to call PO with 90095 zip code. Finally, I talked to the right person who worked in the Village postal in Westwood. He said UCLA had its own postal service system and it did not conform any kind of mailing. I was sort of relief that knowing my package was with UCLA SON. This is my first time applying to MECN. Anyone who is re-applicant out here, do you mind share your previous experience with UCLA-MECN?

I spoke with ****** (I'm sure you all know who I'm talking about). She told me they emailed all of the admitted applicants already and those who were waitlisted or not admitted will not be notified by email but through regular snail mail instead. This leaves me confused, since some posters here were notified via email of their waitlist status or not being admitted. Either way, I'm totally bummed about not getting in but congratulations to all those admitted and best of luck in your future careers!

Ugh, I totally saw myself at UCLA. However, I was fighting an uphill battle with this school. Still holding out for MSMC or CSUN, so at least there are options. Good luck everyone, and hopefully we'll run into each other on a hospital ward in a couple of years!

Sorry everyone who was not admitted. Thank you for sharing in this experience it made the anxiety a lot more bearable. I have no doubt that ALL of us will be RNs before long and will have the chance to do the job we all separately realized was meant for us. I wish the best of luck to everyone and I look forward to working with you all as colleagues and coworkers :)

hey everyone. i didn't receive an email and i must admit i feel relieved. i would have been ecstatic to have been accepted but i can only imagine how much more prepared i can become with another year. it's a huge accomplishment to even have had the opportunity to meet the minimum requirements and apply to such an incredible program. i applied last minute after attending the info session and realizing i actually did have the grades and what it takes for the program. (i had been looking into the program for a few years and contemplating if i met the same criteria they were looking for in applicants.) i never could have imagined i'd be good enough to compare myself to the 400 applicants as i walked in and dropped my application off back in october.

i currently work at ucla reagan med center and it's an absolute incredible job/institution. i know that no matter how long it will take, i will some day be wearing the navy blue scrubs all the rns wear there. i look up to them very much (despite the fact that i think i may be the same age or even older than a few.)

i've spent the last 3 years preparing for this intense program. i paid off some major school debt and have been working hard in 2 hospitals. it makes me feel relieved that all the money i paid each month into my student loans and credit cards can now go straight into a savings account that will make me more financially prepared for the program and not to mention mentally stable so that i can be the best possible nursing student with no other things to focus on but foley catheters and picc lines!! not to mention, now i can take pharmacology and pathophysiology to take the stressful study load off when i have to learn that while in the program. that way my attention will be more on the patients.

congrats to everyone accepted... but i would also like to congratulate those not accepted as well. i hope you take this as a sigh of relief. you are all great and inspiring people with the right mind to enter the exciting field of nursing. there are some amazing patients out there just waiting to be helped and cared for by such a group. take care everyone and have a great weekend!! xoxo

:heartbeat:heartbeat:)

I just spoke with the Assistant Admission Officer for the MECN program @ UCLA, and he said that he's not sure if all the admitted applicants were notified...but the letters by snail mail are going out on monday to all applicants

Oh I see... So, for those of us who have not received emails, we'll be notified by regular mail for either rejection or wait-list? It may not make sense, but I hope I don't end up in wait-list... I can't take any more waiting! ^^

Congratulations for those awesome future nurses who got in, and best of luck to you everyone!

Is anyone out there declining an offer or a position on the waitlist? Just curious to see if I had ANY glimmer of hope of getting in......

I just found out today that I was admitted to UCSF MEPN program. So there is a decent chance I will be declining admission at UCLA. I am not sure yet. Good luck everyone.

Congratulations Sandman! What a fantastic position to be in. You must have worked very hard, so seriously, congratulations :-)

Sandman,

Congratulations! I was accepting into UCLA's MECN program but, given my work schedule, didn't apply to many programs. My significant other lives in SF and I am wondering if it might make sense to apply to UCSF for next year. Do you mind commenting on your stats: undergrad GPA, GRE and clinical experience?! Just wondering if it makes sense for me to do this and potentially pass on UCLA.

Thanks.

Thank you everyone I really appreciate it. ViajeraNP, I would say it depends on what you are looking for. If, as your name suggests, you want to be an NP and you know thats what you want, UCSF might be a more direct route. However it would be hard to decline UCLA when you dont know about UCSF. As for my "stats", I have a BA in psychology from UC Santa Barbara with a GPA of 3.55. I took most of my prereqs (chem, anatomy, phys, micro) after undergrad at Santa Monica College with a 4.0 (taking 1 class at a time). I have worked as an EMT for about 4 years first on an ambulance and now in an emergency department. GRE 690/690. I hope that helps... And congratulations on getting into UCLA!

Wow, congrats Sandman, that's wonderful news. What a great "problem" to have!

I am planning on going to UCLA. It sounds like some people are on the fence, so hopefully those on the wait list will also get in.

Good luck to those who are wait listed and also to everyone who is waiting to hear from other programs!!

(Also, my UCLA admission packet arrived in today's mail. So everyone should be hearing from them by mail very soon...)
