Fall 2010 UCLA MECN applicants share your comments/concerns

Published

Just a reminder for whoever interested in applying to fall 2010 UCLA MECN program, the deadline is Nov. 2, 2009.

Let me share my story. I mailed my application to UCLA SON two weeks ago via certified mail. I thought I could track my package on USPS website. However, it only showed that the postal service received my package and there was no more further info regarding the arrival at UCLA. I panicked and called the USPS three times with three different phone #s. And I went to my local postal office to recall my package. NO LUCK. They told me to call PO with 90095 zip code. Finally, I talked to the right person who worked in the Village postal in Westwood. He said UCLA had its own postal service system and it did not conform any kind of mailing. I was sort of relief that knowing my package was with UCLA SON. This is my first time applying to MECN. Anyone who is re-applicant out here, do you mind share your previous experience with UCLA-MECN?

has anyone else gotten anything in the mail? specifically those that didn't get an acceptance email....

i'm still waiting for a final answer :uhoh3:

I got my waitlist letter in the mail today. I think they mailed everything yesterday, so when you receive it might depend on where you live. I live literally down the road from the campus!

Good luck!

I just got the snail mail Package :)

Received my official rejection letter in the mail right now. :(

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Got my official "no we don't want you" letter today. It was much better than Johns Hopkins' rejection. I recommend UCLA for getting denied anytime. Official stats, 60 accepted, 45 waitlisted and over 500 applications.

Good luck to all, I'm signing off this thread.

sugarlips,

where did you get your stats from? i received a snail mail letter from ucla today saying that i am #43 on the waitlist and after reading this entire thread, am feeling like the chances of getting in are slim to none. did you call admissions to ask them how long the waitlist is? thanks!

Dolphin, did you apply to other schools too?

Yes I did. I did not get into UCSF or BC, but I have gotten into Hopkins. However, since I live in California, an in-state option like UCLA would be much preferred, for financial reasons, of course!

Do you know anything about UCLA's waitlist and if students have historically gotten off the waitlist? Seeing 43/45 doesn't give me much hope...

Hopkins! That's great, dolphin. Considering there are 60 accepted students, it's hard to imagine that there would more than forty vacancies. But you're already accepted to such a great school!

For me, I've only applied to UCLA and now ended up on the waiting list as well. I wish I had more information, but I don't know anyone in the program or applicants personally. This forum is the only place I'm getting the info. ;)

I just got my waitlist letter... MEH... anyone know what your chances are of getting in when you are #33 on the "alternate" list HA! Congrats to everyone that gone in :)

Ugh, I still haven't heard back from them yet! I live in Boston, so maybe it just takes longer to get here?? I'll give them a call if I don't receive anything today.

Before, it sounded like people who were waitlisted received emails last week, so I was sure I was rejected since I hadn't received an email. But now it sounds like some people who didn't get emails are now finding out they are on the waitlist. Is that correct??

Congrats to those of you that got in.:yeah: There are lots of people that envy you right now!

I'm #35 on the alternate list :D

Although I have not decided officially, I will be attending Western U this Fall.

Best of luck to everyone!
