Fall 2010 UCLA MECN applicants share your comments/concerns

Published

Just a reminder for whoever interested in applying to fall 2010 UCLA MECN program, the deadline is Nov. 2, 2009.

Let me share my story. I mailed my application to UCLA SON two weeks ago via certified mail. I thought I could track my package on USPS website. However, it only showed that the postal service received my package and there was no more further info regarding the arrival at UCLA. I panicked and called the USPS three times with three different phone #s. And I went to my local postal office to recall my package. NO LUCK. They told me to call PO with 90095 zip code. Finally, I talked to the right person who worked in the Village postal in Westwood. He said UCLA had its own postal service system and it did not conform any kind of mailing. I was sort of relief that knowing my package was with UCLA SON. This is my first time applying to MECN. Anyone who is re-applicant out here, do you mind share your previous experience with UCLA-MECN?

The confusing part is a few people got rejections already by email. That part throws off the whole idea that just the people with fellowships got acceptances. I really want to know today/tomorrow, I will not be able to survive the weekend knowing that some people already know. As it is I can't even be productive, I find myself siting by my email all day because let's face it...its the most important thing going on in our lives at this moment. Goodluck, somebody post if they get an email today!

I was surprised by the email yesterday, I was thinking mid March as well. I'm trying to find out more regarding fellowships; however, I was under the impression that the SON recommends students for fellowship after the first year. I'm unclear how fellowship works. Anyone know how this works?

How many times have you dialed *******'s number and then hung up?

How many times have you dialed Shelli's number and then hung up?

That's funny. I just spoke with the guy who handles fellowships for the SON. I learned that we'll find out about fellowships in approx. 2 weeks, they're given to the top 13-15 ranked MECN students upon entry. Apparently 60 students were accepted, not sure out of how many applicants.

wahhhh wannnn. Wow, 60 students! Well, it's not like I didn't know the odds. However, did he say when all notices will be sent out to the 60?

I never expected the result would be so soon, because when I checked the "decision status" from the gdnet website, it says decision will be made in March and April. So I thought we won't know until late March or so.

Now that I heard some people got the result already, it's driving me crazy! I don't have much hope of getting in but I just want to know, you know?

Well, good luck to you everyone.

Tokebi211 I know how you feel. This wait is excruciating. I really hope we find out soon.

Keep me posted. ;)

oh my GOD this wait is killing me! I have refreshed my e-mail a hundred times today! I think I am going to go for a bike ride to chill out...

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

PS Anyone know how many applicants this year?

LOL it's kinda nice to know I'm not the only one wringing my hands and checking inbox over and over.

Doesn't seem like anything's happening today... If I get notified, I'll be sure to post here.

I like the idea of a bike ride! Going crazy myself. Tomorrow I don't work and am supposed to be studying. How will I keep away from the Gmail? Please post if you hear anything new, and I will do the same.

I just heard I'm on the waitlist. And not particularly high up either! Ahhhhh, the excruciating wait continues........ anyone know how many usually get in from the waitlist?
