Fall 2011 TCU hopefuls

Published

Is anyone else applying to TCU for next fall? I'm just waiting on my final grades from this semester at my CC before I mail my application. I still have to take A&P 2 and Micro in the spring, but I got a 91.86 on my HESI. I'm really anxious to just get my stuff in the mail already!

And good luck to everyone else! :D:up:

I didn't get in. :sniff:

@ PAMQ

How are You.. No actually im a transfer student from Northern Arizona University... so it was still a challenge though thanks so much.. I hope You get in somewhere

What a coincidence! I'm currently waiting on an admission decision from NAU's Flagstaff nursing program, now that TCU isn't happening for me.

Ya.. I actually gave up on NAU's because i got rejected before. I applied a second time and are waiting on them

I was put on the TCU wait list. Did they give those admitted a deadline to commit to their program. I really wish they would tell me where i stand on the wait list but, they wont. Im just wandering when TCU will know who has accepted their admittance and who hasn't. Hopefully a few people will decide to go elsewhere and im high on the wait list.

Congratulations to those who got in!

I misread your post... sorry! Congratulations on getting accepted! It's pretty competitive since most of the seats go to the TCU students and only a small amount are open for transfer students... that's something to be proud of! :)

Hey guys! Sorry to barge in on the TCU thread with this question, but Nwachineke - Do you know if NAU ever accepts people into their program despite having prerequisites in progress? I have A&P 2 and Micro in progress right now. I know NAU docks points for that, but I was wondering how much that affects NAU's decision (in your experience).

Hey guys I'm thinking about applying to TCU but I would be a transfer, do they count the HESI scores cumulative or separate ? and what do you get overall to even be considered?

I think they look at the sections separately. The only science section that TCU requires is A&P, and I was told by an administrator that they don't even really look at the scores of that section because there are several applicants who still have A&P in progress. I was told that the reading score is very important. There isn't a minimum score they are looking for that I am aware of, but I would think that a student with less than 90's in each section (other than A&P) probably wouldn't be a very competitive applicant. I was anxious before taking the test, but left the test feeling that the questions were very basic & easy. Good luck!

Did you not apply to other nursing programs? If not, then yes I'd just transfer to TCU and then apply for the Spring term. Keep in mind that there are certain rules to declare your major as Nursing as a TCU student. This is from their site:

Change of Major

  • A TCU student may change to the nursing major if the student is not on academic warning or probation and has or can reasonably expect to have a 2.5 TCU cumulative GPA by the time the student is ready to enroll in courses limited to the nursing major.
  • Student should file an intent to enroll in first practicum courses by October 1 for the spring semester and February 1 for the fall semester. Forms are available in the Harris College of Nursing administrative office.
  • Permission to enroll in practicum courses is determined by the availability of clinical placement slots in clinical facilities.
  • The student must meet the requirements for graduation based upon the published TCU Bulletin at the time of entry into the major.

So if you do decide to transfer to TCU just make sure you get it done by October 1st... and then you can start in the Spring.

As a current TCU student I can tell you this is not the case. If you transfer to TCU you will remain classified as a "Transfer Student" by the nursing department no matter how long you attend the university. I've been here two years and still had to apply as a transfer applicant to the nursing program. There have been rumors that the selection board is considering changing the way this works, but even if they make the decision to change their current classification rules it would still need to be grandfathered in to the program. As it stands, the only way you can apply for spring is if you started at TCU as a true freshman.

What I am planning to do if I don't get into any of the school I applied to is that I will go to TCU for a year and then try to get into the nursing program that way because it is a lot easier to get in as a student. Good luck everyone! And kt1234 what are you studying at TCU???

sorry to interrupt the thread, but i have a question, I just got accepted in to TCU's nursing program,( transfer student) and at el Centro college of nursing as well, in one in which i only get an associates, at tcu, i am able to get a bachelors but my major worry is the tuition, any suggestions??
