Hello all!
Today was the first day to submit a nursing application for Sierra!
I just wanted to start a thread so we can keep each other updated. This is my first time applying for Sierra. I applied for Sac State and Stanislaus spring 2018 and didnt get in. I had a low Teas score of 77, so i retook it and got an 85. I might re take again....not sure.
Who else is applying? how many times have you applied for sierra?
Good Luck everyone!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS to everyone accepted! It's an amazing program and we can't wait to meet you all at your orientation this summer!
As far as the schedule for 1st and 2nd semester you have class Monday 8am-230pm Tuesday/Wednesday Clinical 630am-330pm or 230pm-1030pm and Thursday 9am-1220pm. That's a typical week, but the first couple weeks each semester the hours change up a bit because you have skills labs, there is also other meeting and stuff throughout each semester.
Working during the program depends on the person. We have a lot of students who work in our class, but a lot of them took some time off at the beginning until they got an idea of the workload and the flow of their studying. It's doable, but the faculty makes it VERY clear that the schedule is not flexible to our schedules and we have to make it work. We are contracted through hospitals and required to have a certain amount of clinical hours so you have to be there. There is not much flexibility with it, with that said, more than half our class works and our class is doing well.
Congratulations to all that got accepted!! That's wonderful!! I'm so surprised that Sierra already sent out their emails....before SCC and ARC...maybe because they switched to the new point system and it went quicker.
Does anyone know if they typically notify everyone who got accepted all in the same day? Praying I still may get an email. This is my second time applying with Sierra and I also applied with SCC and ARC this round for the first time.
Wishing the very best for everyone!!

Thank you so much for the information!
I've been looking all over the place and can't seem to find a schedule that I can show my employer. Did they send out a pdf of the schedule relatively soon after the acceptances?
But it sounds like we have two days of classes and one day of clinicals a week.
Thank you in advance :)
The full schedule will be in the syllabus which you will get before class. They should give tentative schedules at the orietatiom in Summer(ours was in June).
You have two days of class AND two days of clinical each week. Your clinical shifts are typically 630-230 first semester, but there is one group whose clinical hours are 230-1030pm, you don't pick your clinical group or shift and they don't switch people around if you're not happy with the shift. Everyone will be on PM's during one semester in the program unless the hospital changes.
BTW, although Sierra has a pretty streamlined program between each class and the schedule will be pretty similar. This is how it was for my class, we are not aware of changes they make for future classes each year, so all of the schedule information I've shared about how my class and the class before us was, it may or may not change for new classes. Overall, expect to be in school/clinical 4 days a week.
Very helpful! I have so many questions but I am sure it will be answered during orientation. I can't wait to meet everyone!! And good luck to those still applying!!
At The first orientation, they don't really go into too much detail. But at the second or third orientation, they will have us (current second semester students-- will be third) be there to talk. So bring all your questions as we can answer them.
The family member is there because the school of nursing wants to make sure you have a "support system." Nursing School is hard, and they want to talk to the family briefly about the support system, simply put, that you WILL need throughout the two years. I'm sure your boyfriend will be fine to bring. Thanks!! Why do they want us to bring a family member over the age of 18 for the first orientation? I wanted to bring my boyfriend. I'm really interested in the ADN BSN Merger wth CSUS but was wondering how likely one is to get in!
As for the merger, I am in it. There are 15 spots, and it's all random selection. They'll talk to you more about it toward the end of first semester, and you'll find out if you get in during winter break.
