Fall 2018 Nursing Sierra College

Published

Hello all!

Today was the first day to submit a nursing application for Sierra!

I just wanted to start a thread so we can keep each other updated. This is my first time applying for Sierra. I applied for Sac State and Stanislaus spring 2018 and didnt get in. I had a low Teas score of 77, so i retook it and got an 85. I might re take again....not sure.

Who else is applying? how many times have you applied for sierra?

Good Luck everyone!!!!

I'm applying! I haven't dropped off my application yet (still waiting for 1 more transcript), but I dropped off my applications for ARC and SCC today and there were only 15 and 2 people that had dropped off respectively. I was shocked! I know it's only end of day 2, but I just figured people would be as excited as me to get them in this week! lol! This is my first time applying! Good luck to you!

Very Nice!!

good luck to you Mrs.Perseverance! its always good to apply everywhere!

Im hoping to apply to ARC and SCC also, just got to get around to it. lol.

Best of luck to all of you applying! I'm currently in my second semester at Sierra. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I know a bunch will ask (as we all asked in the Fall 2017 thread) how many times it took applying; it was my first time at Sierra, and twice at the other local schools. A majority of us got in on our first time, but for some it took up to 3 rounds of applications.

I turned in my applications today at Sierra and ARC. This is my second time applying at Sierra and third at ARC. Good luck everyone!

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you guys know if Sierra College would accept A&P 1 and A&P 2 in place of Anatomy and Physiology.

Thanks!

I did A&P at ARC, they accept it. Where did you take it at? Did you look at their equivalency grid?

They for sure will as long as it's equivalent!

Thanks guys. I took the courses out of state. But all the other schools accept it. I'm feeling pretty confident it'll work.

Todd94, thanks for being available for questions! so awesome. :)

I do have a question, out of all of the science anatomy, physio, micro and chem...how much of each is super important to retain for sierras nursing program? I want to start working back through all of my old course work so it stays in my brain. lol. for example, do we need to know all the specific bone details for anatomy? also, would you recommend prospective applicants to start learning medical terminology?

Thank you!!!

Honestly, I want to say you won't need it, but it depends on how much you remember from A&P and Micro. When they go over a lecture about a body system (let's say GI), they sometimes do a small brief overview of the system, and then go straight in the disease and pathophysiology. When they do that, at least for me, everything just clicks because I've been exposed to it before. And I want to say that it will 100% click for you too. Some things may need a little longer studying, but since you've been exposed to it before it'll be a little bit easier.

When we had orientation back in May 2017, a bunch of students wanted to know how much we should go back and study pre-few courses before actually starting first semester, and the instructors actually advised againsed it.

As for medical terminology, I guess you could take a medical terminally class. That's what I did, but that was back in 2015 (2 years before starting last fall). And let me tell you that I honestly don't remember majority of it!! You will learn these things as you progress through the semesters. That's why most ADN/BSN programs don't require medical terminology as a pre-req (I've only seen LVN programs require that).

Todd94, Thank you so much for all the helpful information! We all really appreciate it. Hope your program is going well!!
