Sierra College Fall 2019
Generally very high. Just remember that if you are an alternate and you don’t get in, you’re guaranteed a spot for the next class. The Dean mentioned today that they haven’t had any declinations, but keep you’re hopes up. For my cohort, they went through the entire 10 alternates and had to redraw names. I’m not sure about the class behind us. Remember that some students get into other schools too and sometimes decline the others. Best of luck to you.

Sierra College Fall 2019
Working is HIGHLY discouraged, but totally doable... depending on how well you are dedicated and know how to time manage. We we have several students who work and they do perfectly fine. It’s just a lot of dedication. I personally work one 8 hour shift a week on a Saturday, but I didn’t start that until 3rd semester when I finally knew how the program worked and I was comfortable with it. So much went on first and second, it was just difficult to manage. The workload the first year is definitely insane. Very heavy in terms on content.

Fall 2018 Nursing Sierra College
Hi everyone! For those who got accepted to Sierra and were at Orientation on Tuesday. I am one of the people in charge of our mentor program and we have created a Facebook group in order for those to join and ask questions regarding class/clinical. We are currently still trying to pair students up, but this group will help out in the meantime, and also be there to ask questions if your mentor doesn't know. We are here for your support, and we all want you to succeed. The name of the group is "Current Sierra College Nursing Students." You do not have to join if you don't want to.

Sierra does not have an LVN program.

ARC SCC ADN/RN Fall 2018
Same with Sierra. Med sheets are required for all care plans. Meds are definitely overwhelming first semester, but it begins to come together around second.

ARC SCC ADN/RN Fall 2018
It could be useful. I didn't take it. Again, schools are different so they may incorporate it differently. When we had Skills lab, they took an hour of time each week and we had a Math Professor come in and teach. First semester is all about pill dosages, how many mg/ml/dose, and injections. If math isn't really your strong point, you could take it.

I took pharm at SCC before starting my first semester at Sierra last fall. I honestly don't recommend it. There are so many classifications of meds in 6 weeks, and I personally didn't retain any of the info. I don't know how other schools incorporate pharm, but normally it's incorporated with disease processes and actual nursing care. Plus when you're in clinical, you'll learn more and majority of the time give the same meds every time.

Congrats to everyone who got in. Us current second semester students look forward to meeting everyone at orientation.

The family member is there because the school of nursing wants to make sure you have a "support system." Nursing School is hard, and they want to talk to the family briefly about the support system, simply put, that you WILL need throughout the two years. I'm sure your boyfriend will be fine to bring. As for the merger, I am in it. There are 15 spots, and it's all random selection. They'll talk to you more about it toward the end of first semester, and you'll find out if you get in during winter break.

At The first orientation, they don't really go into too much detail. But at the second or third orientation, they will have us (current second semester students-- will be third) be there to talk. So bring all your questions as we can answer them.

Sierra is the only local one I'm aware of that you don't need to apply to the school before applying to the nursing program... unless it changed this application period as they changed their application process. Just be aware that ARC's and SCC's (and I think Butte) application period has ended for this semester already.

Fall 2018 Nursing Sierra College
Honestly, I want to say you won't need it, but it depends on how much you remember from A&P and Micro. When they go over a lecture about a body system (let's say GI), they sometimes do a small brief overview of the system, and then go straight in the disease and pathophysiology. When they do that, at least for me, everything just clicks because I've been exposed to it before. And I want to say that it will 100% click for you too. Some things may need a little longer studying, but since you've been exposed to it before it'll be a little bit easier. When we had orientation back in May 2017, a bunch of students wanted to know how much we should go back and study pre-few courses before actually starting first semester, and the instructors actually advised againsed it. As for medical terminology, I guess you could take a medical terminally class. That's what I did, but that was back in 2015 (2 years before starting last fall). And let me tell you that I honestly don't remember majority of it!! You will learn these things as you progress through the semesters. That's why most ADN/BSN programs don't require medical terminology as a pre-req (I've only seen LVN programs require that).

American River College fall 2018 hopefuls
Those 6 units in the summer are upper division (human development and cultural anthropology). They aren't the lower division you take at the community college level. If you have already taken them, you don't need to retake them. Those are just the residency ones. Starting 4th semester is when you take the actual nursing classes. The 3 schools are different in regards to who gets in. For Sierra, it was random draw but you have to maintain a B throughout the entire program. However, not all 40 people want to do it.
