Fall 2010 nursing program @ BMCC

Published

Hello I'm wondering if anyone is applying for the Fall 2010 nursing program @ BMCC. I was able to change my curriculum to "NUR-PCN" and was wondering what comes next. Thanks

Hi Kris,

I can't help with the chem course as I transferred mine (organic chem) from another school, which I took years ago. If you want to enter the morning program in Fall 2010, what I can advice is for you to take chem now along with Psych and Math as like bilis, I found Math and Psy100 easy to do. Both can be done online too. But don't take these two subjects for granted as you need to get As for them. Better get a B on chem and As on these two.

You can take AP1 during summer. I did that and got an A but prepare to work extra hard as you will have quizzes each week for 6 weeks and you have to read and study every day. I also work full time and found myself studying while in the subway .

Thank you so much, you guys have sold me on the Math, Psych, Chem curriculum for this semester.

I just emailed the BMCC prof in charge of online classes. My registration date is next Wed. Is it too

late to register for an online Psych?

I'm going to do Math in person b/c it's not my strongest subject.

Hi kris,

By the way, just wondering why you are registering late? By Jan. 27, classes might be filled up already especially chem and psych. Is this your first sem at BMCC?

Hi Guys, Ugh, unfortunately since I'm still labeled as a non-degree student, b/c I only took

English last semester, the registration date given to me was Jan. 27.

I can log into Panther and my Panther account says something abuot registering on the 26th

so I'm hoping I can just register online?

Does anyone have experience with that?

Hi kris,

wow...bummer, hopefully ur able to take what u want. as for the PSY100 they do offer an online class this semester, but i don't know the fine line because u have to email the distance learning advisor to get approved to take it, but honestly i think it's worth it. if ur like me who works in an office and u have internet access and can sneak in some school work here and there, it helps not to have to go to the campus to meet for class. The prof listed for (distance learning) PSY is very nice, just complete the assignments and keep up with the readings.

Good Luck,

Bilis

I see. That is one more information BMCC staff omitted I guess, since once you've declared your major (even as pre-nursing or liberal) and took one semester, you have the ability to register early from those who are new to BMCC. That way, you have first dibs of the classes you want to take. I was unable to take any other class aside from Mat104 last year Spring since I registered late and all the classes I want were already filled.

I hope this will not happen to you but be prepared to get the same scenario. You can check the course schedule via BMCC web page http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/academics/course_schedule.jsp and see if there are still seats available. Otherwise, I recommend asking somebody during your registration if you can take chem and psych100 in another CUNY school.

Also start using panther on Jan 26 to check class availabilities for you, register if you can via Panther. Go to your Jan. 27 registration and ask for CUNY school alternatives if you didn't see the classes that you need to take. Make sure they change your status to matriculated preclinical nursing major. That is very important in order to get into PCN.

I hope this helps. Good luck with the registration!

Thanks again guys! It looks like Psych100 is almost closed and I can't register until Jan. 27!!

Can I take that at another SUNY school or does anyone know if PSYCH100 has a good chance

of opening up agian?

Check other CUNY schools (I don't think SUNY is affiliated with CUNY) via the CUNY portal http://portal.cuny.edu/portal/site/cuny/index.jsp?front_door=true. You should be registered at this portal especially if you're planning to do online courses. Once you're in the portal go to the Esched link (under student applications box) and you can check other CUNY schools that could offer the equivalent chem/psych classes. If there are available classes, ask the registration officer if you can take them. They should give you a form so you can enroll in another CUNY school.

Otherwise, you can also enroll in a non-CUNY school via this link http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/registrar/upload/noncuny-permit.pdf. However, you still need to be matriculated at BMCC before being able to enroll in a non-CUNY school. There are instructions on what to do in this download form.

It's a pain in the bum but it could be worth it. Hope it helps.

Hi all!

I am interested in applying to BMCC and trying to figure out the process from reading the website but it's all very confusing. Do you have to be a student there for a certain amount of time before you get into the Clinical Nursing sequence? I think I would have to take MAT104 and ENG but that's it...so if I were to take those courses in the summer would I be able to start the Clinical Nursing sequence in the Fall?

Thanks for your help =)

Hi! I'm actually in the same boat!

I'm taking Math 104 and Psych 100 right now. Last semester, I took English 101.

Could I take Chem in Summer Session 1 and Bio in Summer Session 2??

kris,

are you already attending the school?

Hi Starlette,

Yes, I'm currently enrolled at BMCC. I started this thread and its' honestly been more helpful than the BMCC staff. It's like pulling teeth to get answers from anyone working there! Are you currently enrolled?
