Fall 2010 nursing program @ BMCC

Published

Hello I'm wondering if anyone is applying for the Fall 2010 nursing program @ BMCC. I was able to change my curriculum to "NUR-PCN" and was wondering what comes next. Thanks

Thanks :D. Interestingly, I found English as my toughest subject. I love AP I and II and I'm looking forward to micro next week :lol2:

who r u taking your remaining courses w/? i found micro challenging, but very interesting. i took it w/ (moderator edit of name) ended up w/ a b+. good luck with these courses. not too much pressure in getting as, but still with all the demands you're left all hyped up about getting high grades.

ah I don't know yet w/ Micro, they haven't posted the name of the prof. for the class I'm taking (it's Saturday class). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one too and hoping to get a good one. My APII prof was tough but I find him fair.

...as are most science courses. well, good luck again to you Dee. Hope you have a good semester and I will be checking here quite often for any updates. This site is awsome:up::up::up:

Thanks! I'll keep you posted! :)

Hi Guys!

I'm so thankful to find this website and thread. I desparately would really appreciate some answers to some of my questions in regards to BMCC.

I'm looking to apply to the Spring 2010 Pre Clinical Nursing Program.

I already have my degree in Communications from another school, however, I lacked the A's in the needed pre requisites for BMCC Nursing.

I just took English 101 and got an A- , is an A- too low to get into the program?

I also had NO clue until a friend told me that a Chemistry class needs to be taken BEFORE BIO 425. Is this true? I am really bummed b/c I intended to take Psych, Bio, and Math this coming semester in order to apply for Fall 2010.

I'm desparate for answers!!!!

Also, I'm not yet a declared Liberal Arts major. Do I need to declare this on my registration date on Jan 27?

Thank you and I'd love some answers b/c the BMCC staff is NOT HELPFUL at all, I am constantly transferred, ignored, and/or given incorrect information.

Hi kris,

That seems to be the general attitude when it comes to BMCC staff . You should declare yourself as Preclinical nursing major when registering (my one major advice!) as I made the mistake of declaring liberal arts major when I registered and now it is difficult for me to change it as well as difficult for me to get advicement.

You do need to take Che121 or Che118 first before taking BIO 425 (AP1) but I had a classmate who was taking both Chem and BIO425 at the same time so this is doable. I think you have to get a special request to do that at the science department. Unfortunately, I don't have anymore contact with that classmate so I can't give your further information.

If you have A- w/ Eng101, make sure you'll have A in AP1, Mat104 and Psy100 to be able to get in especially if you're considering the morning program as they usually have higher GPA requirement (since many wants to get into the morning program).

I can't really recommend good professors as one's view of "good" is another's view of "ehhh". What I can suggest is to check the professors available for the subjects you're taking (via BMCC course schedule link) and then got to http://ratemyprofessors.com/ and see what they say about those professors. They are sometimes helpful.

Hope these help. Let me know if you need further info.

Dee

hi kris,

i have to agree with dee. the information she posted is correct and if you're able to pull a's on the remaining courses you'll pull a 3.93 gpa and good chances for getting into the program. i took a&pi w/ (moderator edit of name) and she's good but the class in itself is challenging. my advice is work hard and don't slack off you'll get in.

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Wow, thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. It's funny b/c the helpful information

that everyone gave me on this site trumps all of the information that BMCC has given

me in months, after many questions.

I'm going to take your advice and call the Science dept to try and take Chem and Bio

at the same time.

One last question to everyone. I work full time and I don't want to take more than 2-3 classes

this semester. I plan on taking loans and going to BMCC full time if/when I get in, but does anyone

know if BMCC offers the Nursing Pre Requisites during the Summer Sessions, such as Psycho or Math?

I want to bang out the Science courses and then maybe focus on a Math or Psych this summer?

Thank you SO much again!!!!

Kris

Hi Kris,

In my humble opinion balance your sciences and the other pre-reqs because for you to have a good chance in getting into the BMCC program you have to ace the 4 pre-reqs (AP1, PSY100, ENG100, & MAT104). I took MAT104 & PSY100 online and were pretty easy for me, but if you intend to take all these sciences at once be prepared to study and study hard. They have a lot of material that you need to grasp. Maybe you should consider taking online classes as you would do your work at your own time, of course meeting deadlines, if you have a internet access and is convenient for you.

Hope it helps,

Bilis:)

Thank you for your wonderful advice Bilis!!!!

Do you mean take one science now and the other science another semester rather than both

at once? That's a good point b/c I am working right now.

Also, does BMCC offer online courses? I'd love to do that for my psychology class.

Again, Thank you so much. I'm also looking at Ultrasound Tech Schools as an alternative in case

I don't get into BMCC. I think the career is in demand. NYU offers a great program but it's very

expensive!! SUNY Downstate in Bklyn also offers the program so I may look into that.

Any advice, info in regards to the online programs would be helpful. Also, does it matter if I take CHEM 121 or 118? Is 1 more difficult than the other?

Kris
