FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone,

I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program for fall 2020. I was wondering anyone has an idea what the acceptance criteria is?

I have a very good gpa in undergrad (3.92) so the admissions team told me I do not need to include GRE scores.

Also how many words should our essays be?

Best of Luck!

I’ve just received my offer for waitlist! CONGRATS to everyone who has been accepted!

Hi folx! I was accepted, but in light of COVID, I will probably be giving up my spot. I currently live in Oregon and I am hesitant to move cross country with my husband not knowing what the state of the world will be come fall and whether we'll be able to get jobs once we arrive if school is delayed. Instead, I'll be attending a local ABSN at the academic medical center where I've worked for the last 4+ years. Good luck to everyone!

Have you looked into where you would be living in the fall? Or have found a roommate?

Hi guys,

I was admitted to both Columbia and Hopkins and am trying to decide!! Anyone else make this decision and if so, what factors influenced it?

Stay safe <3

To everyone considering or have decided to attend JHU come Fall 2020, how will you afford to attend?

The program alone will cost upwards of $122k and even when I take into consideration:

  • scholarship provided by JHU
  • scholarships here & there that I've won

, I'll still have close to $90k that I'll have to take out loans for.

Taking out loans in this recession seems like an absurd life decision given RNs make an avg salary of < 6 figures.

JHU accepts both Fall and Spring cohorts annually & with an admissions rate of 46%, this program is a CASH COW for JHU nursing. It could be they have a large pool of competitive candidates to choose from, but I'm skeptical of a program charging students exorbitant amounts of money, even if it's as prestigious as an institution as JHU.

I couldn't agree more @lavieenrose. Columbia is cheaper but what makes them different in your opinion?

Speaking only from a financial perspective and I'd have to do the math to say with certainty - Columbia's program is 85k, but at the end of the day, what leaves your pocket by attending Columbia vs. JHU is nominal with the high cost of living in NY.

Hopkins astronomical cost is why it no longer became my first choice ? At the day, we all get the same piece of paper. You have to ask whether the quality of education is worth the price. And also ask whether the job you get afterwards is worth it which is an entry level nurse. It just seems so insane that hopkins price is 121K when University of Maryland right down the street is about 71K with the included hidden fees and it has a higher NCLEX pass rate. Some food for thought!

Perhaps Your paying for the name. It’s like, a coach bag is cheaper than a Louis Vuitton but a Louis is a Louis. That’s John Hopkins compared to other schools.

That's exactly it!

I applied to both UMSON and Johns Hopkins. Even before getting responses, I knew UMSON was my top choice. JH has a great program, but the cost just did not justify it for me. I currently work for Hopkins and the nurses that did programs through JH say you're paying for the name. The UMSON program you are still getting the MSN and are eligible to sit for a CNL certificate exam (which is an added bonus). Both programs rank high up on the U.S. News and World Report (Hopkins #1 for the MSN and UMSON #2 for the Master's CNL). Either route you are getting fantastic education and I feel that goes to say about any master's entry-into-nursing program. Good luck to everyone this upcoming fall!

Keeping all us future nurses in my thoughts right now with everything going on.

Hi! I was accepted and am stressing out about the cost! I am so grateful to have this opportunity but man that's SO much money. I'm waiting to hear back from an ABSN program in my state (CA). The ABSN is ~ $20k so obviously I am SO torn. I thought I was the only one questioning the crazy cost of JHU. Keeping you all in my heart during this decision-making time for us!
