FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Speaking only from a financial perspective and I'd have to do the math to say with certainty - Columbia's program is 85k, but at the end of the day, what leaves your pocket by attending Columbia vs. JHU is nominal with the high cost of living in NY.

FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

To everyone considering or have decided to attend JHU come Fall 2020, how will you afford to attend? The program alone will cost upwards of $122k and even when I take into consideration: scholarship provided by JHU scholarships here & there that I've won , I'll still have close to $90k that I'll have to take out loans for. Taking out loans in this recession seems like an absurd life decision given RNs make an avg salary of < 6 figures. JHU accepts both Fall and Spring cohorts annually & with an admissions rate of 46%, this program is a CASH COW for JHU nursing. It could be they have a large pool of competitive candidates to choose from, but I'm skeptical of a program charging students exorbitant amounts of money, even if it's as prestigious as an institution as JHU.
  3. Thoughts on whether this pandemic will impact admissions for not just nursing but all other frontline healthcare professional programs?

FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Not true. I applied before the Jan 1 deadline (and after the early/priority deadline) and haven't heard back one way or the other.

Same, I'm a nontraditional w an abysmal undergrad GPA. Hoping JHU Nursing will value students with a growth mindset. I like your attitude @C1979

FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

I have a hunch they're waiting to send out rejections by the end of this week in bulk. I'm not holding out for an acceptance. Good luck to everyone. Congrats to everyone accepted. Onward!

FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Just called JHU Nursing Admissions and was told that regardless of their decision (acceptance, waitlist, rejection), we'll be notified via email. Fingers crossed for you and you and you and me!

@rbflolonoy big ups to you! Did you just now receive an email from them? ... asked the person who should be studying for an exam rather than perusing this forum.

    UPENN ABSN 2020

You are awesome @El Primus! So many kind, generous people entering the field of nursing. How lucky are future patients I've applied to one other program, but that was a stretch. My plan is to continue to make myself a more competitive candidate by raising my GPA and gaining more clinical experience. All the luck greatly appreciated.

    UPENN ABSN 2020

Happy New Decade, all! I am a career changer. After almost a decade in the startup world, I'm transitioning to nursing. I was unfocused in my undergrad years and graduated as quickly as I could (3 years) with a GPA of 2.67. Since having returned back to school, I've taken most of my prereqs and have earned As and am continuing to work hard to maintain my 4.0. My undergrad GPA combined with my 4.0 leads to a combined GPA of 3.0 which is low enough that I won't be surprised if I don't get accepted. Overall GPA: 3.0 Pre-requisite GPA: 4.0 Experience: 8+ years of tech experience, 2+ years of digital healthcare experience 1 year of direct patient care experience as an Early Interventionist working with little ones w development delays

I'm assuming the December decision is for people who applied early? Good luck to all of you I applied in December so I'll likely hear back sometime in Feb/March? I should have applied early as well...
