Failed nursing student

Published

i was doing ADN and i was on my 3rd sem of maternal health, i was suppose to graduate on may 2010 BUT i failed my maternal health sem with 4 points.so now i am here in the middle of nowhere. i really dunno what to do frm here. i am trying to contact other colleges for the transfer but its not easy and my college is not taking me back. i was thinking to apply for a med assistant job but i dunno if i need a certificate now. So, please help me. i really need some good advice.

thankyou

Have you tried Excelsior - spelling?? on-line.

I meant to add that maybe you can only take the maternal health course you need on-line- this program is accredited-you take your final at a place like Sylvan-where I took my NCLEX. I too failed maternal health-scored 79.80-instructor would not round up-needed 80%. I did not fit her "ideal" of what nursing student should be- in my 40's -second career..I could have re-taken-had a 3.56 gpa prior to this class but could not even think about being in the same room with her for another 5 months. Check it out- good luck

Do you happen to live in the Daytona Beach area?

thank you all for ur advice. yeah i tried contacting my dean but she said "we cannot readmit you right now coz there is no vacant space for the next sem in OB" also i thought about LPN but BON of texas said i cannot challenge LPN exam. So was thinking abt medical assistant job.

Sorry, didn't read down far enough. I see you are in Texas. I asked my previous question because there was a girl in our program who blew up on her teacher in front of an entire computer lab full of people when she found out she had failed. I felt terrible for the teacher and I wanted to back-hand the girl. Sorry about what you are going through and best of luck.

The teacher should not have told her she failed in front of the entire class. That's something you tell someone in private. The teacher was at fault, she should have known better.

Aren't you allowed to fail a class at least ONCE in an ADN program? I don't understand why you can't just repeat the course..

some programs allow for a retake, others do not. And many times, allowing to retake depends on the availability of open seats in the particular class. If there are none, then unfortunately, that can't be changed. Now that being said, she said the dean will not let her back in. I wonder if there are other things going on here, or what the deal is. To be totally dismissed from a program is very serious business. She may have had a failure in something else as well, and generally most programs allow for only 1 failure....

So sorry about your situation. That really sucks. Nurses are supposed to have compassion but when it comes to nursing school they have none for their students. Nurse + power = monster

Sorry for how you are feeling! I'm sure it's a difficult time to be looking for a school in which to transfer since there are wait lists. It should be easier for you since you would be starting in the middle of the program (at least)? I think things will change once prospective nursing students see that nursing jobs are not as easy to come by OR to do as they might think...the doors will once again open. I'd mix a lot of action toward whatever options you see with patience right now.

Nurse + power + mental illness = monster with a crusade

Hmmm.... I didn't realize that there was a justification for screaming at a teacher. I guess it's because it was the teacher's fault that she failed. Not her's. Got it.

Actually, the teacher didn't tell her anything. She failed a test that she was taking on a computer and the computer told her in front of everyone. She took it out on the teacher. Maybe she should have screamed at the computer instead.

Now this is very unfair for you to judge. Most instructors are compassionate, but have standards that they have to follow to be fair. We only know the side of the story presented here, which may or may not be totally true, who knows?

About getting your LPN...why not call the board of nursing in New Mexico? They might have some idea about how you can get through the LPN exam. That would help you a lot in getting your foot in the door in nursing and you could go on and get your BSN on line and forget the ADN. There are 4 BSN programs on-line here. University of Phoenix is the fifth, but it is wayyyy to expensive.

There is a BSN at Western New Mexico University, one at Eastern New Mexico University and one at New Mexico State University and University of New Mexico. My friend could not get into University of New Mexico because of the waiting lists, so she went to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and got it fast because she did her BSN and now it is mostly on line. They would probably just take you starting from your failed Maternity course. Give it a try! Don't give up! Good luck to you! :)
