I worked in ICU for three years- I totally agree with you and your description of the smell was also accurate- I would just add a little musky to your description.

I went from ICU RN to Case Management to now Clinical Documentation Specialist. You might say something like you want to try a different kind of nursing. That is the great thing about being nurse-all the possibilities... good luck

Go for it..I was one of the "more mature" students- 41- this was my second degree but I was more focused this time around. I also had no trouble getting a job although I did work part-time as a tech at my hospital, I think that may have opened a few doors. Started out in ICU-still loving ti.

I meant to add that maybe you can only take the maternal health course you need on-line- this program is accredited-you take your final at a place like Sylvan-where I took my NCLEX. I too failed maternal health-scored 79.80-instructor would not round up-needed 80%. I did not fit her "ideal" of what nursing student should be- in my 40's -second career..I could have re-taken-had a 3.56 gpa prior to this class but could not even think about being in the same room with her for another 5 months. I can't answer your question- but I am very interested how you got your position? I am an RN with BS in Psych- wanting a CRC position but have no CRC experience-which seems to be a requirement for most jobs I see posted. Am thinking about Masters program for RN Clinical Research-but very $$$$$. Currently work in Clinical Documentation for Hospital,was ICU previously- do not miss bedside-still work on floors PRN to keep clinical skills up to date. Any info appreciated. Thanks

I worked full time as a patient care tech (Friday, Sat and Sunday) while going to nursing school also full time. My children were 5 and 7 at the time. It was very difficult-don't see how I did it looking back now. I did laundry and grocery shopping at 0400 many mornings. I was determined to make it work- my kids, now grown are very proud of me-they never felt that I put school or work ahead of them. Still- do it now before you start your family. You can do whatever you set your mind to. P.S. Some of my classmates worked 2 jobs to support their families and still go to nursing school. Good Luck:nurse:

I agree with the above replies-it is hard because YOU are the difference between life/death-doc's are not at bedside like they are on television. Most of what you learn in NS is designed to sharpen your mind-(rote memory) but what you really need to be a nurse is critical thinking skills and that is learned at bedside-

I currently work as cm, am looking for another job-on call every third week 24/7 plus work that weekend-do have a day off before/after working that weekend but am so behind not really much of a benefit to be off those days-work all holidays-MANY social service issues as we do not have social service dept. One night had 4 emergency psych placments (2 had to be EDO), other 2 had no insurance, we had psych beds at our facility-but no psychiatrsist on call that weekend.It was a nightmare-I was in the ED until 4 am and than had to work 12 hour day.I guess you could say I'm a little burned out.Work on average 50-60 hours a week- I think the floor nurses make more than we do in our dept.

Currently working as case manager, have BS in Psychology, AD nursing, 6 years clinical working as ICU nurse, would like to work as clinical research coordinator-should I pursue Masters in Nursing for Clinical Research-would take app 3.5 years and cost app $40,000??
