  1. Juliann, I was being too dramatic. Especially without really knowing the truth. I should not assume that healthcare workers are as safe as the general public from things such as MRSA. And not being in healthcare yet, I did assume so, ignorantly. I appreciate all the responses to my question!
  2. This comment was posted in the CNA forum. I wanted to ask the general forum, where RN's post, if this is true. I find this kind I of hard to believe. And if not true, the statement is rather careless, if not dangerous. Here is the quote: "I agree with most of the above. If you've worked in direct patient care for more than a few months, chances are high that you have MRSA."
  3. Yes, but she isn't in a third world country. She should eat with some better manners. I feed my dog in a nice clean dog bowl, I don't throw raw meat in the middle of the floor and say go get it.
  4. I hope you feel better after the vent. This place is a great sounding board. Keep up the good work!
  5. Sounds like a wonderful family and you are a wonderful nurse.
  6. I am taking pre-req's for nursing school now. I have also applied for a CNA class this summer. I want to try this to the point that I obsess and read these boards daily. I can still go for an OTA degree also. Which would not be as difficult and much faster to get. But....I keep coming back to nursing because it just seems like a bigger reward at the end. Everything about it. Not only the accomplishment but the job itself. It is kind of scary though. All the tests to overcome. The on the job experience I must get. A big question I have is....how much do you have to retain as far as memorization: meds, diseases, anatomy. It just seems overwhelming. I don't know if I'm an A student. I know I could be a B student. And at my age, almost 47, I worry about retaining all this new information. I am looking for some realistic input at this stage. Thanks for listening. :redpinkhe
  7. I have also read that getting some of the vac's you had as a child over again as an adult are not harmful.
  8. Especially the experienced nurses. Do you have time to exercise? Do you eat right? Do you think being a nurse makes you more health conscience? Do you work with many unfit or overweight nurses?
  9. I am wondering how extensive your class got in practicing on each other. How touchy/feeley did it get? I'm just going to be blunt here and ask, did it feel awkward if you were overweight and had others in your class being able to see you up close and personal. Just wondering....I am feeling a bit self conscience....
  10. Can you do all that with an associates degree?
  11. I am going to do a 9 week CNA course in the summer. If I get in. I am on the waiting list. It's at a community college. Look into summer courses maybe?
  12. Born2beWild, you can start by being just a tad easier on yourself. You have a great job. I always think to myself, "it can always be worse." There are so many people looking for work right now. As far as the job you are about to quit, it's really just a job and I am sure you will stay classy and your regret for having put anyone out will show thru. I always remember that there is probably someone waiting in line to take the job anyway. You might eventually be helping someone else out who really needs that job!
  13. So if you can find your records you are good to go, even if you might not have the immunity from childhood?
  14. I'm 46 and my mom doesn't have them. She was not one to keep track of anything. Just wondering why this thread was moved. I think it would get more response in the gjeneral forum.
