I don't really feel comfortable saying which hospital it is. I don't want to single them out. I tried putting unknown into the field, but I still wasn't allowed to proceed with the application process. I'll call their HR on Monday to hear what they have to say about it. Thank you OptimusRN.

Hello Everyone, I was filling out an application online today for a position working directly with the patients at one of the "Big Named" hospitals here in Atlanta, GA. Anyway, the application requires you to enter an email address for your previous supervisors. This is something that I've never had for any supervisor. With that being said, I tried to enter N/A into the field, but received an error message saying it wasn't valid. I can't proceed to the more important sections and submit the application without the email addresses. What should I do? I have considered contacting HR at the hospital on Monday to see if there is a way to bypass it and complete the application. Would I be crazy to do this? Does anyone have any suggestions? I've seen the job posting you are referring to, and I honestly don't know where you take the WellStar course. BUT...Nursing Care Associate is another name for Patient Care Technician. At least that's one of about 20+ job titles my book from Special Nursing Procedures class listed that was on the same level as PCT. There are several job titles out there, but they pretty much mean you have to be a PCT with your CNA or a nursing student who has taken certain courses to get the job. I can send you the list of job titles if you like, but I don't know how much it would help you. Good luck job hunting. :)

I too am a single parent. You most certainly have to do what is best for you and your son. If you're going to have help with your son in Savannah, then the extra pre-reqs really shouldn't matter. It will be worth it...less stress while getting your BSN. My situation is different because I live 1.6 miles away from the college I will be attending for their ADN program. I couldn't have possibly made a 4.0 in my PCT courses and began to pursue a nursing career without my mother's help with my daughter. Just weigh the pros and cons. If you feel confident that you can maintain your household, grades, and keep your son happy without help, then stay where you are. Deep down inside, I think you already know what you want to do. Good luck with your decision...definitely go for happiness like Taylo040 said.

Hello Georgia RNs, I am extremely interested in obtaining my ADN for many reasons. I already have an A.A.S. in another field, and I want to pay for my BSN in cash. I am avoiding student loans at all cost...been there done that. I found out about a new ADN program that's in the developmental stages here in Metro Atlanta, but I received some discouraging information yesteday about transferring credits from a technical college to a four year college/university. Getting an ADN is a better option for me financially, but I know that I will return to college for my BSN soon after I become an RN. Did any of you have problems transferring your credits from a GA technical/2yr. college to a GA 4yr college? If so, what classes wouldn't transfer? If you didn't have any problems transferring credits, then what colleges did you attend? I am definitely going to call around and do my own research, but I figured allnurses forum would be a good start. Thanks In Advance :)

What is the pay for dialysis PCTs like? Do they get paid more than "regular" PCTs? If so, why?

I recently applied for a CNA job at a nursing home. The application was 9-11 pages long and had to be filled out onsite. It was so thorough that giving them a resume would have been pointless. I'm new to the healthcare field, but I have taken care of my grandfather in the past. That's the only healthcare experience I have. I was told by other ppl on allnurses in one of my posts that HR won't even look at your resume. So worry about a resume after you gain some hardcore experience. Anyway, I'm a great candidate for a CNA job, and so are you! May I suggest filling out as many applications as your hand will allow. Then sit back and listen to your phone ring. CNAs are still in demand because everyone isn't fit to do the job. So I know you will get a job soon. Just don't give up. Good Luck! :-)

If you're still looking for a program, then let me suggest going through the WDA/WIA. That's the Workforce Development Agency off of Pollard Blvd in downtown Atlanta. If you are unemployed or underemployed, then you will qualify for assistance from the State of Georgia. They will pay for your CNA education just like they did for my PCT. I was giving $3000 for my program at Woodruff Medical Training and Testing for the PCT program which includes CNA, EKG Tech, Phlebotomy Tech, and First Aid/CPR/AED for healthcare professionals. The school gives you a grant to take care of the remaining money that's owed. Anyway, depending upon where you live or work, then that will determine the amount of funds you receive from Uncle Sam. Go to the www.atlantaregional.com, click on workforce solutions, click on training and education services, then read the information on that page. If you click on the link towards the bottom of the page called the Georgia Eligible Training Provider List, then you can see all of the schools GA will pay for through the WDA/WIA. The Atlanta Regional Commission takes care of the residents in Cherokee, Clayton, Douglas, Fayette, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties. A friend of mine received $8000 from Gwinnett towards school. If you don't use all of the money they give to you, then you can go to another school or college even. Please feel free to send me a message if you need anymore information. There's nothing better than FREE education. Trust me...I complete my program for Patient Care Technician on July 30th when I take and pass my national exam. It didn't take me long to do it. Only 5 months worth of classes and a 1 month externship that I'm getting ready to start really soon. It doesn't matter if you decide to work as a CNA, you will have more options by getting your PCT (EKG/PCT/Phlebotomy/CNA) as opposed to the CNA certification alone. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thanks Cherish I really appreciate that. I went to school today, and told the career development counselor what happened on my externship interview. I was told that more than 3 people reviewed my resume over the past few weeks. They all thought the resume was good, if not great. So, I postponed my meeting to go down to the GDOL to see someone about my resume since they have the service available. Tonight two more people are looking at it. It has been proofread for errors atleast 10 times. My resume is error free. To be honest with you I am now offended by that lady saying it was bad at first glance because she didn't read it at all. I also have to admit that I'm really worried because a resume could potentially make or break a great opportunity. This could be my shot for employment at an awesome hospital. I'm looking at the websites you suggested right now. Thanks again. :-)

I will be a CPCT as of July 30, 2010 when I take and pass my test. I went on an externship interview today for PCT because I'm at the end of my program. The interviewer liked me a lot, but said my resume was bad. I wasn't offended because I've used this resume style before and was offered a job at another hospital. Not to mention, I based my resume format off of an example I received from my mother. My mom actually received the resume packet from the Georgia Department of Labor. There is no hope at all if the GDOL doesn't know what kind of resumes employers prefer. Is there a particular style resume that's more acceptable than others? Please enlighten me. From my own research, there are 3 basic types of resumes, and you should only use the one that best fits your particular job history and experience. Anyway, I just want to feel comfortable about this meeting I have tomorrow with this very important RN Manager. She has the power to help me or get me hired at her hospital. I am being introduced to her by a friend, and I don't want to let him or myself down by giving her a bad resume. Please help? What style resumes do employers prefer these days? Thanks for your help.

hello everyone, the deadline for my prospective school just passed on june 1st. the postmark deadline for transcripts and test scores was june 15th. i requested my transcripts for the 2nd time already, and they still haven't arrived based off my application status on the school's website. this delay is either going to cause me not to receive financial aid or to not be accepted for fall 2010. did anyone out there pay to send their transcripts by certified mail? i did everything within my power to prevent my transcripts from showing up late. i am upset with the usps because i feel like they might have dropped the ball on this one. honestly, if you go to the post office here in atlanta, ga, then you'll see 8 service counters with only one person working. it makes me mad because i called on may 28th and requested transcripts for the 2nd time. what is going on with the mail? most of the schools here have waiting lists, and the deadlines for fall 2010 have passed already. so switching schools now isn't an option. did anyone else have this problem? if so, what did you do? thanks

I applied for Fall 2010 as a transfer student, and unfortunately for me they haven't received my transcripts yet. I don't know who's dropping the ball, but I won't get accepted for this term or get financial aid if they come too late. I have requested transcripts twice already well before the deadline, but they still have my application status as incomplete. I am disappointed, but I won't give up. I have considered getting the transcripts sent certified next time if I have to reapply for the next term. Anyway, good luck to all of you. You all are well on your way to a great career.
