Nurses New Nurse

Hi everyone,

Pls forgive me if I did not post this thread the right way, I am new to this website. But please I need help. I am a nursing student in Abilene TX, and I failed after my first semester in the nursing school. Then I was told to wait till the next academic year to apply again, which I foolishly did. I did not think of applying to other nursing schools because I thought I would not have a problem getting back in but I was denied the re-entry into the school. My family is already disappointed in me because of money already wasted( am an international student with no loan), I have no one to talk to about this, my advisors are not helping. I got the denial letter today, I have called schools still accepting applications for students that were denied but they are all full. I feel that because I had waited a whole year to get this BSC. I should not have to wait again, I feel it is unfair. FIRST of all, do you know any school in any state still accepting applications for this Fall 2008. If it ends up that there is none, do you guys think I should wait another year to apply again?. (and probably continue to be hated by my family). or try schools accepting new/transfer N.students in the spring. Also please I am trying to get a list of schools accepting applications for entry into spring semester, I do not mind the State. I am sorry I burdened you all with my problems but please I need all the help and encouragement I can get. Thanks

I think you should give yourself several options in case one doesn't work out, you can try another. You're young.....life lesson....always always give yourself more than one option!

Thanks for replying. I did not understand what you meant by "other options". do you mean changing my major?

I'm truly sorry for your situation. But I'm not sure that you can speak about it being unfair. No program has an obligation to accept any student. Each school has it's own admission policies and standards, and this particular does have a record of your failure. Getting into nursing school is increasingly more competitive than in years past, and nursing schools are looking for students who are likely to succeed and pass NCLEX.

That's not to say that you do not have options. Most every Community College and 4 year College and University has a nursing program. I would be accessing information on those now. Get your applications in and arrange for your funding now. Just because these programs are full now doesn't mean that students won't drop before classes start or during that first week. And now that you know what's expected of you to pass the program, it's up to you to buckle down and earn the right to keep your place in that program.

If you truly have the desire and ambition to succeed in this profession, I have no doubts that you'll make it work. I wish you much luck and success!

yes you would want to hurry up and find any community college around that is accepting applications, ask about deadlines etc... be careful being an intl student because as soon as you don't take classes you will be out of status.

Give yourself more options by applying to more than one college. I had two colleges in mind when I started in case one wouldn't accept me, the other probably would. I actually had several back up plans.....including driving to other cities (towns) if needed.

I guess the big question is why did you get asked to leave the first time? Academics, attitude, laguage barrier, attendance..? Do you feel you have resolved the problem that got you kicked out the first time? Can you provide the school with documentation of what steps you have taken? I would apply at every nursing school that may take any passing credits from your last school- at least that way you haven't wasted the $. If a school dismisses a student there may be no way to overcome that stigma with that school. With the competition to get into nursing programs it may be best to expand your applications.

Hi bibish, I am so sorry to hear of your disappoitment. :( I am closeby, in Lubbock. I don't know of any programs that are still accepting applications for the fall..

But have you considered starting in the Spring? (Jan '09) You don't have to wait a whole year. Here in Lubbock, Covenant Hospital and South Plains College both have cohorts that start in the fall and spring. They are ADN programs, not BSN, but they are very affordable. Covenant will also reimburse your tuition plus a 6k sign on bonus if you work for them for 2 years. If you are set on the BSN, I know Tarleton and West Texas A&M both start in the Spring. I'm sure there are others..

There are options! Don't get discouraged. Good Luck!! :nurse:

Thanks Sussana for replying but I was not kicked out/dismissed, I only failed one of my classes. And yes, I am trying to expand my applications.

Thanks Brealynn for replying and for the advice. I have started considering other options.

Hi Don,

Thanks for helping me to realise that I can still apply to these schools I have started this process already and hopefully something good will come out of it.

Hi Goldengirl22, thanks a lot for your concern. I will look into the ADN program for your school and also try the couple of schools you gave to me for the spring semester. Thanks once again.
