Hi everyone,
Pls forgive me if I did not post this thread the right way, I am new to this website. But please I need help. I am a nursing student in Abilene TX, and I failed after my first semester in the nursing school. Then I was told to wait till the next academic year to apply again, which I foolishly did. I did not think of applying to other nursing schools because I thought I would not have a problem getting back in but I was denied the re-entry into the school. My family is already disappointed in me because of money already wasted( am an international student with no loan), I have no one to talk to about this, my advisors are not helping. I got the denial letter today, I have called schools still accepting applications for students that were denied but they are all full. I feel that because I had waited a whole year to get this BSC. I should not have to wait again, I feel it is unfair. FIRST of all, do you know any school in any state still accepting applications for this Fall 2008. If it ends up that there is none, do you guys think I should wait another year to apply again?. (and probably continue to be hated by my family). or try schools accepting new/transfer N.students in the spring. Also please I am trying to get a list of schools accepting applications for entry into spring semester, I do not mind the State. I am sorry I burdened you all with my problems but please I need all the help and encouragement I can get. Thanks
hi bibish sorry about your current situation but dont let that get you down, if you know that nursing is what you truly want to do then dont give up, and dont worry about your familys "disappointment". i failed a course my first semester in nursing school and everyone kept saying "how do you fail in first semester, thats the easiest semester." truth be told nothing is easy about nursing, it involves alot of critical thinking and application skills.
anyway most schools that do bsn application deadline for the fall08 have passed, but spring 09 is still available. here are the schools in houston/dallas that i know do bsn programs.
pvamu con-deadlines for application are march 1st for fall admission and october 1st for spring admission.

Have you tried the private school route? They do cost more money but you pretty much "get In" and they usually run two or three starts a year. There are a few here in Phoenix that are still accepting applications for a July start and one that is a BSN that is accepting for an October start
Regarding your denial back into the program I have one word for you.... POLICY. Did they give you a reason for denying you? What is the policy for re-admittance back into the program after failing a course? Where i teach, if you fail a course and it drops your GPA to a certain # (and that # is pretty low) you are not eligible for returning to the program. If you fall between another # (I believe it's 1.5-1.9) you are placed on academic probation. Anything over 2.0 and you can get back in.... that is, as long as you submit a written request by a specified date. It's all in the student handbook. We have had students who fell below the GPA, or have not written a request, or handed it in late. They just assumed they had a seat the following year. My thought is, if you (collectively, meaning students) want this so bad, you will make sure you know what your policies are, so you don't miss a thing. If there is a policy, you basically have nothing to appeal. if there isn't, i'd go to your state education department.
Is there a policy that states you have to wait a year to reapply? Was this a suggestion? Was there a rationale for you to wait a year?
Also too, understand that it will be tough (apparently, not impossible from what I see on these boards) to get into a school after failing a nursing course. Think of it from our perspective: why should we take someone who has already failed, when there are so many applicants for so few seats, and so many of those applicants are more qualified? I don't mean to be so harsh about it, but on paper, who looks better: the student with a 4.0 in all prereqs, or the student with a lower GPA b/c of a failed nursing course? You do have your work cut out for you. What have you done in the past year to redeem yourself? Have you taken any other courses to boost your GPA? Have you worked in a hospital? Just remember how competitive schools are.... they are looking for the best. Even those who are the best may not get in, b/c there are students who are better than the best.
LPN may be an option for you.

Im sorry this has happened to you. Try to remember, when one door closes another will open.
Have you considered going to LPN school and then taking an LPN to RN bridge? That is what I did and I worked as an LPN (able to gain experience and make money) while I worked towards my RN. It was a win-win situaiton for me. LPN school is 1 yearand you already have your RN pre reqs obviously, so then u could just apply to a bridge program (1 yr). Im not sure about your area, but in FL the bridge programs are much less competitive to get into than the generic track programs. I applied to two programs and was accepted to both the first time.
The way I see it is, you could probably start LPN school within a few months and be done a year...probably before you even got accepted back into RN school. Then only one more year for your RN. Worked for me.
