I really don't know where to begin right now. I took the nclex rn exam 2 weeks ago and just found out that I failed. I honestly don't know what went wrong, i left the test center thinking that i did good but just didn't want to say anything to people who asked until i get the result. Good thing i kept my silence. The question format may have caught me by surprise as it is totally different with all of the practice test questions i used to prepare. But still I can't seem to understand how most of my answers were wrong specially on categories where i was confident to answer.
All my life i have never failed on an exam. Now i know how some of friends feel when they fail on an exam that they have worked for. In my opinion, passing this exam comes with luck because u are only to answer a minimum of random 75 questions based on all of the things u have learned. Whoever thought of this concept and question format makes me wonder if they want a low percentage of passers.
Even though I am depress on the outcome for my first try I am still going to give it another shot as soon as possible. However, my dilemma is that I am no longer certain of what i need to review because I would only be cheating myself if i was to take the same practice questions i have from saunders and kaplan because i already know the answers. Besides, that won't help me knowing that type of questions thrown at me to test my knowledge is totally different. i can't seem to find any books that would boost my confidence from taking the exam again. Saunders and kaplan gives you the basic knowledge of what is required as a nurse and both didn't really help me. i would have said it was of great help if i passed but sad to say i didn't.
I took the exam relaxed, prepared and confident, then after 2 weeks I feel crushed knowing that all those sleepless nights didn't pay off. I just feel lost right now..... lost my confidence and ruined my plans.

Well here you go! Blaming NCLEX.
May be you were too over confident
May be you did not use Saunder and Kaplan appropriately.
Give yourself sometime before you begin studying. You dont need to know the answers to all the questions, what you need to know are the rationales.
Good luck

The things I found helpful was exam cram, hogans review and learning how to answer questions. I learned how to answer questions even if I didnt know what the disease or medication was. sometimes I was able to figure out the ans by eliminating all other choices leaving me with only one answer.
I do believe the key is not only answering as many questions as possible but also figuring out how to answer the questions. I passed with 75 questions.
Take a deep breath, relax a min. then figure out were your deficits are make yourself a study plan and begin again.

I would look at the analysis that the board of nursing gave you. I took Kaplan as well and failed, but my instructor told me if the area was below passings theses are the areas I need to study more. You need to know content in order to answer the questions. I just got my analysis from the board and I had seven areas need passing and one below. I also had 192 questions and feel that I will use something else to study. Kaplan did help but I also feel when I reached 180 questions my brain starting not working as well and I was tired. I don't blame anybody but myself.
I am going to study my content for the next round and do others types of questions. I have a Hurst book and she studies content. I actually saw diseases and drugs on my test that I actually knew.
Good luck when you take the exam the next time.

I would say take your time answering questions and understand what they are asking for so that you can select the correct answer. Process of Elimination is a biggy, got to know what is right and what is wrong!! Content is the Biggest, got to know Cardi, GI, Endocrine etc....Make some flash cards. Sounds like a time waster doesn't it but it helps. You can study those anywhere!! Good luck on you next test!!
