Failed Nclex RN with 265 ques I NEED HELP PLEASE

Published

Hello every one, I NEED HELP!! I took the Nclex RN JAN 12 2010 and got 265 ques and still failed.I got my feed back it was not helpful. it showed i was close to passing level in all sections.

I got a lot of medications questions(i did not know most of them) and a lot of emergency ques and i had no idea which pt i would see first.

How can i study and know all the medications??? and how do you know which pt to see first when all of them need critical care or have airway problems:confused:

I don't know what to do or what i can study this time around....

Help me please

What did you read or what helped all of you that passed?

Thanks

I took the Nclex-RN on Jan 22 2010, and PASSED on my first try. I too got 265 questions and didnt know half of the medicaions that were on the test. So what i did was---broke the med down by prefix/suffix, and then ruled out n/v/d, because all meds have those side effects. As far as which patient to see first, always use your ABC's and of that doesnt fit, you always see the LEAST STABLE patient FIRST. Hope this helps:)

What did you use to study with shabans? How many times have you taken the test? You may be rushing to take the test when you need to take time to really actually understand what the question is asking. I am an LPN (NOW) and I used Saunders 3rd edition. There is an Edition for RN's. I also used LaCharity for Delegation and Prioritizing. There is a thread on here that can help you with the Precautions. There is threads on here that can help you with a lot of things, you just have to look. One thing that helped me was to finally get it in my head that I/you have to understand the question before you answer it and pick the best answer by doing the process of elimination. Although all the patients need critical care or have airway problems, there is one in the answer that is most critical and need help now. LaCharity (hope I am spelling it right) is what help me prioritize and the book is for RN's it helped me as and LPN figure out which patient to see first. I also used flashcards on precautions, diseases, Lab values, hack I used flashcards on whatever I could make into a flashcard and studied them on the go, everywhere. I went to 205 questions twice and was not a good feeling afterwards. There are RN's on here that have went all the way to 265 questions and PASSED. There are LPN's on here that have went all the want to 205 questions and passed also. The computerized test (NCLEX) is determining your competency to be a safe nurse. I think you can achieve this test shabans and pass, you just need to slow down maybe and understand what the question is asking. While studying, answer a lot of questions on your CD, Go through all the content areas (Know your Content) it will help you to answer the questions on the NCLEX and being able to sit for a long period of time before the computer tells you to take a break if you want to. Good luck with your next test shabans and always pray. "Prayer does help". You can do it :)

I took the nclex back in September. I know how you feel. You have gotten a lot of good information from GreeneRn and Nurse Lil-Lea. I think that you should take some time to clear your mind and process what you have just been through. Then you should look at what type of learner you are before you start the review process. If you are an audio learner, go with Hurst review. If you learn more from questions, start with Saunders for mastery of content and then pick up the Lacharity book for Prioritization. Learn your suffixes for your meds and just know that it is going to take your undivided attention to study and pass this test. I wouldn't waste my time with that candidate report. If you were near passing in all of them which sounds right considering you have taking the max amount of questions, it will not help you to study for your next attempt.

I am studying to take mine second attempt at it. It is very hard to bounce back at first, but you will and you have to. You didn't make it this far to give up. Believe me, I know what you are going through right now. You are looking for answers and you have come to the most supportive site to get them from. Good luck and stay positive.

Great advice inspired26 (you got it :))! Wishing you both luck with your next test :heartbeat

Take a deep breath and a few days off. Then come up with a study plan after you have your new test date. Study as if you had never tested before. You don't want your brain to trick you into thinking you know an area already. Again, just do as many questions as possible and study the rationales. Don't be in too much of a hurry. Take the time to study thoroughly. Good luck.

You CAN and WILL pass this test. I agree with all the above posts. Get a plan, start anew and tell yourself "I got this":)

Thank you so much Nurse LV2BME,caliotter3,NurseLil-lea,GreeneRN,inspired26. I really appreciate your time and good encouraging words.

Will start studying and will let all you know how every thing goes.

Thanks

i tried to send u a message but i cant seem to figure out how to do it...

i past on my fifth try and i did this by studying and i did use kaplan and saunders and hurst review for the content but my problem area was answering questions.

so i did a minimum of 100 questions a day and sometimes 150 to 200 questions and then maybe none every now and then. I did this for about 4 months. i probably was ready within 2 months but since it was thanksgiving, christmas and new years and i was traveling and working i gave myself more time.

email me if you have any conerns or questions. [email protected]
