Failed NCLEX RN on first try

Published

I just took my NCLEX RN exam 2/Aug/2017 and just found out that I failed on my first try. I prepared for my exam 3 months before my Exam date. My review materials were Hurst, Mark Klimek and Qbank from Uworld. Although i had Saunders Q&A, i rarely read it because I prefer using the Uworld qbank. I try to answer 200 plus questions a day and prepare myself mentally and spiritually but still I failed my NCELX RN Exam. I know i was rattled while i was taking the test and all the answers to the questions were just so contradicting and i really got confused and nervous at the same time. Honestly, i'm just so depressed right now. Im planning to re-take my exam and schedule as soon as i get my ATT.

I need advice on how to cope and start again. Should i just stick to Uworld and continue my ussual routine of answering questions until i get it right? I am currently working full time and debating with myself if i should enroll in a live class, and if i do, any suggestions? Help. I honestly dont know what to do to pass.

Thank you everyone!

Personally I believe you should trying looking at Kaplan. It helped me pass 75 questions, under an hour with flying colors. Have you ever done a Kaplan Qbank before?

I personally don't think Kaplan will help you. Mainly because you say you like the qbank on UWorld better. Kaplan's explanations and rationales are horrible compared to UWorld. It doesn't sound so much like you have a content issue, as much as it sounds like you just need more practice with questions. I failed my first attempt with 75 questions, largely due to anxiety and not focusing like I should. The second time I took it I passed in 75 questions! You can do it!

I've looked at Uworld and felt the explanations were terrible. I've never recommended Uworld, I don't like it at all. Kaplan helped me pass 1st try, 75 questions, under an hour! Take my advice and use Kaplan!

I used UWorld and Hurst Review for content although I didn't use the question bank in Hurst Review, I basically listened to the videos and then used U world question bank to supplement. I loved it! I believe the priority shouldn't be solving so many questions in a day but trying to know the "whys" to every question given and this you can achieve by knowing your basics without a doubt (Hurst Review videos). I really did enjoy it and I wasn't worried about solving zillions of questions in a day. I made my study pace slow and steady within 3 months and when I tried the final test in UWorld, I got a very high chance of passing and I did pass with 75 questions in a hour 20 mins. Wish you luck my dear. Keep in mind that different things work for various individuals and stick with the one you understand the most. All the best.

Oh man! I'm in the same boat as you, don't you worry! I just found out I failed NCLEX today, after taking it on August 2nd! All I did was study off UWORLD rationales, but I didn't complete it in time for the exam. If you know your content, all you can do is keep practicing questions. I wouldn't recommend a live class because they will probably just review the same topics you've studied. I heard LaCharity was good, and helped a lot of people out with priority questions! Good luck!

Sorry to hear you couldn't pass this time. May be change your strategies and do more questions. It will help i hope. So my question is that do you think UWORLD did not help you? Are the questions not close to the nclex? Any input will be appreciated.

Hi, so sorry for the late reply. Uworld did help me with SATA questions, because the choices were similar to Uworld qbank. And Uworld helped me understand rationales due to the pictures and mnemonic that they would include on the rationale section. What hit me hard during my exam were the broad choices. You know how you try to eliminate choices but then you end up with 2 evil answers and you can't decide as to which is the lesser evil? that was my dilemma. There were also a few questions during my exam wherein i was clueless with the situation and i encountered some jargons that i have never encountered before, even in Nursing school. What we can do is, to just give it all our best and have a leap of faith.

I failed too last month. I used Kaplan and only that. I was really upset because all my close friends are already nurses and are now working. I feel very upset but I can't dwell on the past. I need to look at the future. Now, I'm using Uworld and Saunders. I'm also using Lipoincott Passpoint which I love!! Saunders is cool!! I'm brushing up on content and I should say, I should have done it first time. Hang in there. We will pass this test!!

I also use Saunders! I have the flashcards and the Q&A book. It really helps me esp. on the basic/fundamental questions which kinda rattled me during the exam. Im reading some content from NCSBN but it kind bores me due to the lack of rationale unlike Uworld. Yes, we will pass this time! Im also upset with myself because i'm still stuck with my non healthcare related job and i miss the thrill of working in a hospital :( Im scared i might fail again but we have to keep fighting.
