Failed Anatomy

I failed anatomy twice at Ivy Tech and of course they will not allow me to take it again. I love learning about health care and I really want to be a nurse. I am a nursing assistant now and I love my job but I want to graduate with a degree and I definitely love nursing and I don't want to give up on it but I don't know what to do. They wont allow you to retake it for 5 years. Isnt that a little long? What is the point of waiting five years to take it again. Is there any way to get there sooner?

Can you take it at another school?

You failed it at Ivy Tech? Which one? 101, 102, 201? And at which campus?

You our only get two tries. Ivy Tech has great resources you should have taken advantage of. The instructors are very good and they have great things like free tutoring. Also, I have never taken a class there where the instructor was unwilling to help.

I'm sorry but the nursing program is 100X harder than the prereqs. You are going to have to wait the 5 years as taking it at a 4 year university will be much harder.

How about an LPN program?

Did you have the same instructor both times? Was it in classroom, or online? Maybe a different teacher or format would help. Don't listen to OP.. Waiting 5 years to retake a course as if that will help anything is ridiculous.. Try a different school and try a little harder, if not then, there are other jobs in healthcare that don't require a&p..

You still have to have A and P for an LPN program.

It depends on the program. Some LPN programs have that as a prereq, and some cover it within the program itself.

I didn't realize that. Thanks for the clarification.

transfer schools and retake any class under an A

You failed AP. It doesn't matter if you "want" to be a nurse. You must pass AP to move on. Obviously you do not want it bad enough to study your max effort. If you DID study max effort then you will not pass it in 5 years either. So which is it? You either didn't study enough which was totally in your control or you simply are unable to pass the class. Just because someone "wants" to be a doctor doesn't mean they just let them into medical school. You earn the right to be in school. And even if you had a "lot of stress in your life"...well look around the class room. Everyone is dealing with a lot. Good luck. Use the 5 years to think.

I second the transfer notion. If you really want to be a nurse, you will find away, but waiting 5 years where I am at all your science classes expire in five years.

Meaning you will have to take EVERY science again. So I second the transfer idea.

Honestly your focus should be on how to pass A&P first, and not how to get into another course to try and pass it again. You had 2 attempts with that mentality and it didnt work. Why not start with an intro to AP class and go from there? But I think you should focus on how to correct your failures first, and then go back at it.

Why not start with an intro to AP class and go from there?

This is a really good idea. Find out if you can transfer to another college, or if you can take classes at another college and transfer credits, then start out with intro to AP, or even intro to biology. Work your way up. It is very difficult to go into a good nursing program without good grades in your science classes, and honestly even if you did get it you would have a very difficult time keeping up with your cohort without the good base that A/P gives you.
