Hello,

I am new to this site! I want to know if you guys think i am to old to start school? I work as a Ophthalmic tech for the past few years love helping people love the job just feel bored the same thing everyday not challenging enough and the pay is bad.... I always wanted to be Nurse but scared i wont make the school i am not good in math at all But love Science !! There is a 15 month LPN program in my area i am looking into but, I have been reading on here LPN's do not make much and the jobs are phasing out??? i will like to be a RN can i take the LPN training and then take more classes to become an RN? and how much longer will it take?? I am very nervous and worried about spending all that money in school if they are doing away with LPNs ???? and i have a 7 yr old boy is this the right field to go into or is he going to be neglected??? with my studies????

thanks :(

First of all:wlcmggrp: to the site.I agree with all the previous post. I am 35 and in my last semester of pre courses and will begin my RN program in August. I too was not good in math, I just down right hated it. I did however to remedial math courses (2 to be exact) and they help me a great deal. I have been on this journey since August of 2006 but I will see it through to the end. I have a wonderful husband and an all-around great support system. Yes as long as I live I will continue to age but at least in a year and a half I will be an aging RN, which is what I want so much. Good Luck to you. Oh by the way at my school there is only 1 semester difference between LPN and RN (4 months) so if it is similar where you are I say go for it. Again I wish you the best.

Thank you for you comment is so nice to have found this site i have been so sad lately like i am spinning at my job i have always wanted to be a Nurse but married at 17 had my first daughter had another daughter at 21 and a boy at 26 my oldest will be a senior next yr!!! i feel so old .... but in my heart i feel incomplete like i have not done something for myself financially i have to keep working just hope there are some options for night classes... I am looking in to a community college phcc.edu i hear the waiting list is long but i guess all i can do is try... thanks again for your support

your never to old to follow your dreams *period*

since your just starting i think you should just go for your R.N:)

good luck young lady

My step-father went through a nursing program when he was in his late 30's - early 40's. He's been a nurse for a few years now and loves it. Now, I'm 27 and decided I want to do it as well. I'll probably be in my mid 30's when I finish, since like so many people here, I have a full time job and family, so I have to go to school part time, but I just keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end.

Go for it!! Good luck!!

Your definately not too old! I'm 39 yo, have four children and have only been able to take at the most 2 pre-req's a semester and am finally seeing the light with only 2 semesters to go before applying to the RN program. I think nursing is a second career for alot of people. I say go for it!

I just wanted to add...I have noticed at my school that there are a lot of "older" students. In my Anatomy class, there are probably 6 or 7 students who are in the 30+ age group and we all want to be nurses. I also read somewhere that the 30+ age group is the fastest growing group of people who are enrolling in college.

I know how you feel..I wish I could just go to school full-time and get on with it, because I also have put my dreams on hold for some time. I do have to continue working for now, since I am a single Mom. I have a few pre-req to finish so I will start with one class for the fall and see how it all works out. I wish I knew of a job that I could get in a hospital so I could at least be in the environment and gain some insight, right now I am stuck in a boring office job. I try to stay positive and find this site so supportive. Just take one step at a time and it will all work out!

You are so not too old! My darling mom graduated from her RN program in May 2004; with three children ages: 10, 14, 17. We were 8, 12, and 15 when she started. It was a lot of work for her, but we didn't feel neglected and now she's better able to provide for her family and working in a career she loves. It was a move she'll never regret.. and now I'm following in her shoes! (I'm the oldest)

Not in the least.....

I just finished at 47
