my name is ciobanu andrei and i have a bsc in nursing. i`m from romania, but i want to come next year in uk to apply for a postgraduate diploma course at city university of london, and after that for a msc.

my dream it`s to became a theatre nurse, but unfurtunately i have a problem. i`m hcv+, on treatment at this moment. if i will remain hcv rna negative after the treatment, i can apply for a theatre nursing job.

i sent an email to hep. c trust, and thei told me that:

"if you continue to have hep c, then any job where you may be carrying out "exposure prone procedures" - eg as a surgeon or theatre nurse then you would be prevented from working."

can you give me some examples about nursing jobs where you don`t must to do exposure prone procedures? i want to see what options do i have .

please help me !

ps: please escuse my english .... hope you will understand !

You have to give people time to respond. Many UK nurses will be at work

Things that come to mind off the top of my head, clinics, outpatients, x-ray departments.

Some wards may let you work but you may be limited on what you can do. They may restrict you doing anything invasive to a patient like phlebotomy/inserting IV access

You may have to accept that your nursing career in the UK may be very limited

Thanks a lot for your answer :)

Hi there, you will be restricted from working in places such as theatres, A and E, and I think maybe even XRAY as the Xray nurses do a great deal of work with the invasive procedures rather than standard radiological testing.

You may be OK on some wards such that do not have high care and patients who require invasive monitoring, procedures on the ward / unit.

You may be OK in some clinics although there are some clincis that do invasive stuff so it would depend where.

You would really need to check with the trust you apply to because different trusts have different departments which and may do the invasive stuff seperately.

ITU involves lots of invasive procedures so that might be a problem too. What about working as a practice nurse? Or community nursing might be an option.

Thank you all for your answers !

ScaryMary,

Practice nurse sound great ! I will have a look on internet to see if a practice nurse don`t do EPP

Practice nurse jobs can be hard to find and they do assist with some invasive stuff, will need to contact some PCT's and check what their requirements are in the same way you contacted Occ Health

PCT (Primary Care Trust)

practice nursing may not be an option- we are doing more and more invasive stuff these days as more minor surgery is now done in general practice.

pracitce nursing is not an easy option and you might find it hard to get a job as one as most Gp's want practice nurses who are trained- its a degree program in itself!

Outpatient nurses also do invasive procedures. Have you tried NHS Direct? It is not hands on nursing though. They also always seem to be advertising for staff.

Usually NHS Direct require experience especially NHS experience

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It`s so hard :cry::cry:

The easy option, it`s to hope that I will remain HCV Negative after treatment, so after that I can work like Theatre Nurse :D
