Exhausted

Published

First day of college and class and my professor has already assigned 3 chapters to be read w/ an outline for each, all due on Wensday :banghead:. And this was just anthropology (my only class on Mondays) and I already felt the feeling of giving up and saying "screw college".

I did all of the readings and outline today (took me 9 hours) for one HW assignment, now I'm just imaginaging how I will truly feel the stress when I have to add my Orgo and writing on top of all this tomorrow.

I don't have a job, which I feel so blessed. I'm trying to keep myself on a tight schedule by trying to juggle all this coursework and giving myself time to continue studying for my KAT.

I need to score an 85% in math and a 80% in reading and we only have one time to take it per person, so if I failed it, I won't be able to get into the nursing program.

:( And yeah I'm just exhausted. I can barely keep my eyes open by typing this so sorry If you can't understand whatever I'm typing...

Oh, and I hate college and being treated like a grown up. Grown ups has way too many responsibilities.

Welcome to the wonderful world of "no sleep" lol. Just think, it only gets worse from here. it is a blessing not to have to work on top of your studies, but you can do it. Its very rewarding, and for me, fulfilling. I HATED my Nazi school of nursing, but honestly now? I wouldnt have chosen any other. it really made me a better nurse. Keep at it.

You've been one day and you're exhausted by anthropology? Nine hours to complete some chapter outlines is too much time. Yes, I sound like a jerk, but a well-intentioned one. As you add classes, especially the science classes do not allow yourself to fall behind. Budget your time and decide how much time you can allot to each assignment.

Not having to work is a great gift. So make your education your full time job and invest in yourself. Good luck.

At least the deers didn't get you! :)

Wait until you have to work, have a kid & have to start paying all the bills!

Quickly skim the objectives at the beginning of the chapter. Concentrate on the bolded terms because these are usually important.

The rest? Skim each paragraph so you understand the context of the material. Eventually, you should become proficient at discerning what is important in the text based on the lectures. The fluff can be ignored.

Good advice from others, just sending you a hug!! ((((KatFUTUREnurse))))

Are the outlines something you have to hand in?

Tactfully ask your professor how much he tests from the book. Many professors test solely on what's discussed in lecture, and in any primary sources they hand out.

As I have said on here before and will say again: your book should be a resource for when you don't understand a concept. You cannot realistically outline every chapter.

As bad as it may sound, you need to figure out what corners you can cut (maybe then you could get involved in clubs and organizations on campus, too. Friends = rides home).

Study groups and tutors are another thing to consider if you're really struggling.

You can always say the "deers" ate your outlines.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Just repeat to this to yourself, "I can do hard things." That's what I do when stuff gets real. And I've been an adult for going on close to 10 years now so get it done. You CAN do hard things.

This is just the beginning. Not trying to scare you but it gets worse once you're in nursing school. Information overload. It takes a lot of time and dedication but I'm told in the end it's worth it. You'll learn as you go.. I've been out of school for 10 years and just completed my first month of nursing school. You get into a routine and "Learn how to study." You'll be fine. Good luck

3 chapters that's it? My first nursing class we had to read five chapters to be quizzed on the next week and I felt just like you at first. 'Screw this!'

.......but I did it now it's like second nature. It will only get worse but you get use to it.

I take my hat off to people that have to raise kids and work in order to get through nursing school! Imagine that
