Excelsior Pass Rate?

I don't understand why sheshe didn't retest. Humm, and why now is she bashing EC. Also, why does she have to retake five exams?

Is it if she'd retest she may have passed and not have to retake five exams. Can someone enlighten me.....can you sheshe?

yes you are supposed to respond, that's fine. what i have a problem with is judging people when you dont even know them. i didnt write the thread to get sympathy. i wrote it to share my opinion. just because i dont have the same one you do doesnt make me a bad nurse or person. no one knows anyone else's experience so no one can judge something they have never been through! that's my point. people ask what everyone thinks about excelsior on this site, so i gave my opinon. i really dont care if you like it or not. my original thread wasnt written to anyone specific and wasnt to offend anyone, it was MY experience. (no one elses) nothing in this world is through rose colored glasses, so i thought i would share my experience. there is such a small percentage of excelsior nursing students on this site, that's what i'm saying it doesnt seem to be a true pic of how it really is. like i said 5 other nurses couldnt pass the cpne. i just want people to see the other side. it's not pretty. :yeah:

ps. the reason i didnt retest right away is because i had to have a major surgery. so you can stop speculating. the reason i have to take 5 exams is because they have done away with nc 3 and added 2 different courses and i will have to take nursing concept 1 again b/c of the time frame.

sheshe- I believe if you had had the support of other students/grads in a group like this one when you took the CPNE, you might have had a different experience. There are many more EC students/grads here than you might think. If you ever do reconsider retaking it, I would encourage you to join the discussions here for support and information regarding the hidden details of the exam. It helped me immensely when I was in the program.

No, if you pass those first six or seven exams, you are good to go. I bet if it takes you a certain amount of time, say two years, to finish the CPNE, you might want to do something over again, or might have to.

Most degree programs have a limited period time from beginning to end.

It is a matter of quality of education.

I have not seen a single comment that was aimed at someone personally or at their character.

If there is a reference to someone by name, it is to refer to that person's post.

I also don't think anyone is speculating about anything. I saw a genuine question about why one would have to take exams over again.

Incidentally, if one has a problem, or even just feels un-ready, one can change one's date to later. There are always people ready to take a cancellation. That's not an issue.

Not sure why anyone (no names here!) would have to take the CPNE in anything but the best condition unless there is an emergency on or just before the CPNE. You can always call with the concern/problem. They might want documentation, so get a note from your doctor documenting.

Also, those nursing concepts exams last quite a while.

One must realize that "life happens" and sometimes our timing isn't great. So we can (or not) take responsibility for ourselves, or we can blame. It feels better to take responsibility--that means we have it in our power to make a difference for ourselves.

Blaming sets us up for powerlessness.

Just my two cents worth, since my post seems to have generated a bit of energy--hard to know, though, since neither it nor any other post was actually quoted....

Im am scheduled to take the CPNE in October. I've been working with hospice for 5 years and have limited experience with some of the skills. Im taking the workshop this month so I hope it gives me the confidence I need. I've waited long enough and need to get this done. Any advice? Im freaking out.

You only get three chances at the CPNE, and then you are expelled form the program>>
This seems like an awful waste of money as there is nothing to transfer to a traditional college.
Do the CPNE boot camps help much or just as much of a failure rate with them?

I was in a local LVN-ADN program and they had a real attitude with the LVN's. I was 8 weeks from graduation, had not slept for 3 weeks and was told we dare not call in to clinicals this semester. I had a panic attack thinking I was late for giving an insulin and I drew up the wrong bottle of insulin. As I handed the needle for my instructor to look at the dosage, my eye fell on the pink label and it dawned on me-Lantus is purple! Ack! The MAR was such tiny writing and so far across, your eye can easily skip down a line and this happened so often that the hospital instituted the 2 nurse checking policy (why didn't they make the MAR easier to read?) At any rate my instructor who had been my clinical instructor most of the time asked me to have some time off and come back to the program ( I did not sleep since the tension in my marriage was bad and it was toward the end of the program.) Well, they currently were under inspection to get their accreditation again and I was not only expelled in a nasty way but informed that I was dishonest (because how I remember things happening did not match up to instructors.) and told that I could never go to school anywhere ever.

My "instructor" sat there and cried throughout the whole thing and said; "You can finish somewhere else!" and the other instructor said; "No she can't." All my RN friends who had pushed me to go to school ALL said; Do not go to that awful school-go to excelsior! So, that was 2004, and I got out of my bad domestic situation, divorced, remarried and am tempted to go to excelsior because they don't care. This makes me think that they'll be happy to suck money out of another person and make it hell to pass too. The problem is that the insist that we have to have excellent hospital skills when I have never worked a hospital in my life, I feel like a duck out of water. I have done home health, and I am confident in my skills. However, I have major performance anxiety and KNOW I will not pass first time around. Do I want to put myself through this all over again? It helps to know they have a boot camp. BUT the point is; Other schools such as the one I went to-they kick people out 2 per semester and these MSN instructors have an attitude with LVN's. One of my LVN friends that went in with me was kicked out for clinically unsafe because her careplan was not good enough. One (not LVN) was kicked out because she asked about how to give meds through a J-peg and (NO, we had not covered it in school-I had wondered why.)

I don't know if I am up to spending that much money again and panicking about the CPNE.

I had mixed feelings about going through excelsior as well. I was dismissed from my nursing program and didn't want go back to school and start everything again. I'm giving excelsior a try and remaining positive. I'm doing this for me and no one else. I too have anxiety performing in front of others but I will practice til I know my skills in my sleep. I'm not giving up. Everyone panics about the CPNE you are not alone. Some do fail the first time but come back and pass because they now know what to expect. Everyone on this board has been so helpful and supportive. I use that positive energy to help me move forward. My nursing school was horrible with instructors from HELL. But I worked too hard to let any setback stop me now. I'm not quitting and neither should you. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best.
