Hello fellow Excelsior graduates and students, we are still fighting for our right to have licensure in Maryland. There are many opponents toward Excelsior College, who question our education. Please join our forum, we are taking this up with the Maryland General Assembly. I have also posted a link to a video about an RN who graduated from Excelsior and was given a license by the MBON and then they took it away. Please watch the video. Thanks

(I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, but would just like to point out that none of us have a right to nursing licensure; it is a privilege granted to those who meet the requirements established by the BON in the state in which we seek licensure, and the state BON is free to set whatever requirements and standards it feels are appropriate and necessary.)

This video is very upsetting and ****** me off. Maryland didn't supply reason for revocation to WV because they COULDN'T. I wonder if she could pursue legal action; interfering with someone's livelihood is never ok.

They actually issued her a license! If they made a mistake, it was THEIR mistake....one that went on for a YEAR. They should have just chalked that up as a colossal OOPS and not made it again. But to take the license from her, I feel, is inexcusable. It's not like they issued an APRN license. This woman actually met the requirements educationally to possess such a license. Her name didn't just fall onto the printing presses by mistake. They had her name, address, criminal background checks, etc., in order to make it to number-assigning, issuing stage, right?Makes me wonder if a member of the Georgia BON has a relative sitting on the MBON. Some of the EC students are still fighting down here for what was good enough for the BON for 30 years too until somebody got a wild hair up their ***!

Your website is as addicting as the EPN!!!! I'm really trying to go do something productive but every hour or so, I come back to my iPad. And before anybody gets started, I am NOT at work...I don't even take my cell phone into the hospital. This is purely a day-off thing! LOL!!!

I understand that our licenses are a HUGE privilege, HOWEVER, if I met the requirements to take the exam, instead of revoking the license-ESPECIALLY if there has NOT been any issues of unsafe care-how about having the person licensed meet standards to keep the license??? I'm totally confused on having someone work a year and revoking the license WITHOUT the reason being unsafe care...at least allow the person to fulfill the requirements after the mistake was made. If the person is competent, that can be an easy fix IMHO.

And BTW, it meets requirements for accreditation, and in PA, it is supported for challenge exams in the colleges and universities in my area...I used them prior to entering nursing school. It is HIGHLY recommended for LPNs who want to bridge...I hope that they win their privileges back in the places who are refusing...this is one online program that is NOT "the enemy" IMHO...

How awful that she lost her license after a year! Seems totally unfair!! I'll be following this discussion, since MD is my home state.

Since I live in NM, and MD and NM are both on the list of 24 Nurse Licensure Compact States, I would assume that I would be safe to work in ANY of those states listed, once licensed... although, I'm just starting out. (If anyone knows differently, please let me know....) My family lives in MD, and I have considered the possibility of working there sometime.

Sad situation. I was one of the last Excelsior grads licensed in Maryland in 2008. I recommend the program regardless of what certain BON's think. Although future students certainly need to consider their other options, if Excelsior seems the best one, go for it. Does anyone know if any research has been done to back up these unworthy-of-licensure claims made by various states, or if they just pop up randomly? It just seems strange that these policies should be based on nothing.
