Hi, I an LPN looking to bridge into the RN. I found a nice program with Excelsior.....besides the price being outrageous.....it seems too good to be true. I researched some of the posts on here about Excelsior but it is older info and I would feel better to hear more recent experiences. What do you think about the program? Any problems come up that you did not foresee. I came from a tough nursing school so I am up for any challenge but I really am wondering if I am missing a catch with them. Any info would be greatly appreciated

It's not a bad program, but you need to check your state BON. I live in Texas and there are plans to not allow Excelsior grads anymore-- that is why I chose against it in 2008 and decided to got to a local LVN to RN program. I believe Georgia and California so far are the only ones that are DEAD set against Excelsior grads.

Hello. I am an excelsior student living in Ga. Yes...... there were some issues with our state boards, but not any more (thank goodness)! Anyways I love the program. If you can learn and study the material on your own then its great. Its also good for busy lifestyles because you can take your tests whenever. Its a simple program, but like the other person said, check with your state boards first to see if they license from the program! Good luck
I am in FL, so far....no problems yet with them accepting them. I will see. I am a working mom, I have a husband too but I am the primary worker. I think this program would benefit me well as it is harder for me to go to a traditional college. Thanks so much for your input!!!
I think some of the BON's are afraid of it because they don't do the traditional clinicals. Even though you have the super hard clinical exam at the end.
I've heard that some states are going to try to have clinicals set up for Excelsior students. That would be great-- I hope it does happen.

I am an EC student, I have one more requirement to fulfill which is the clinical component of the program. In NY it is accepted you have to check with your BON if it's accepted in your state or whatever state you plan on living and working. So far it's been real good to me completed all my exams in less than a year. The clinical component is very stressful, there are no room for errors with this exam. It has to be done with 100% accuracy, that is the only drawback. But many have passed, and I intend to do just that. Preparation is the key to success.
I would recommend this program if you are self-motivated and can work independently. It's not for everyone, I've had two friends start and said it was not for them. They felt they need to be taught in a classroom setting. If you need information you can PM me. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi I am an EC student as well. I love the flexibility and would recommend it to anyone who is self motivated. I have taken 2 tests and studying for my third. I am a working single mom so I can't go to a traditional college at this time. Good Luck in whatever you choose.

The College Network (TCN) is a middle-man publisher ... please read this first:

You don't need a third-party publisher to be a successful Excelsior student. Trust me. :)

Excelsior is great IF they are accepted in your state and you don't plan to live in other states that don't accept them. I completes the program and thought it was the right choice for me. Do you homework about the program because it is not an easy alternative.
As far as cost. Excelsior is cheaper than ever! IF your motivated and can complete all your nursing exams in 12 months. You can enroll in the "ADN plan" and it cost $1550. Basically it covers your enrollement fee, graduation fee, exams, and practice exams. The catch is if you don't finish the exams in 1 yr then you will have to pay another $1560 to continue the second yr. This does not include the $1950 fee for the CPNE.
A friend of mine just signed up for the program and the lady told her that it takes the average Excelsior grad 5 yrs to complete the program. So they make it very clear when you ask for the ADN package. But there are several on here that have completes the program in 1-1.5 yrs but it requires dedication and committment.
Don't go through College Network. People sell their modules all the time on EBAY. Check there first.
Good Luck!
