California Excelsior graduate after 2003, pls help!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello,

I am a current Excelsior College student (all exams and FCCA completed) preparing for CPNE. My problem is that due to my husband's job, our family has relocated to California which no longer accepts EC graduates due to lack of clinical hours provided by EC. I do hold a current CA LVN license.

Are there any EC graduates after 2003 that live in CA that was able to become an RN in CA? If so, what did you do to get around this situation?

I am so close to finishing my RN education and this is a great opportunity for my husband, but I don't want to remain an LVN/LPN, so does anyone have any ideas to get around this (other than leaving my husband, because I still like having him around :))

Thanks

So, etwolanyk must not be for real if there was only one grad after 2003?......

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

I can't guess about a person who vaguely posted one time a year and half ago with no details but knowing what I do about CABRN if this person did obtain a CA RN license without redoing school or doing LVN+30 option it's unprecedented

I would like to chat with anyone whom has graduated fromExcelsior College after 2003 and has endorsed the license into the state ofCalifornia. I'm seriously interested in know about the process and if you encounteredany challenges with the California Board of Registered Nursing. I began the ASNprogram in 2009 then stop now I'm considering continuing with the ASN programdue to the challenges I face with the competitions with the local nursingprograms. If you have any information I'm seriously interested in communicatingfor you. Thanks Dee

DeeDee, your profile indicates that you are already an RN with an ADN. Is that not correct?

If you want a California license, then Excelsior is not the answer. Cali is significantly invested in denying Excelsior grads.

To kind of reiterate what has already been said, I would have to tell you that anyone who is graduating from Excelsior after 2003 will not get a Registered Nurse license from California through any means that I am aware of without probably going back to school. About the only way that I can think of to do this would be for someone to go back through nursing school and complete a traditional program and then you might be able to get a license through endorsement that way simply because you are then able to demonstrate that you have both a current RN license and an educational background that meets California requirements. This is, of course, unless you choose to only work in federal facilities because those facilities only require that you have a nursing license somewhere in the United States. Even then, I'm not sure that this particular strategy would even work.

Specializes in EMT since 92, Paramedic since 97, RN and PHRN 2021.

Does that include BSN from Excelsior also? Or just from the ADN program?

That's only if you receive your ADN from Excelsior.

But even going on for a BSN, etc., later doesn't change things. Cali will always look at the source of your RN.

So can get your ADN through excelsior and work , say, in pennsylvania for a while, continue and get your BSN through Excelsior, and California still would't accept Excelsior?!?!?!?! Thats wrong on so many levels.

That is correct. I have a BSN and MSN beyond my ASN from Excelsior plus nearly 8 years of ED/trauma experience as an RN, and Cali won't license me. My Excelsior ASN did not have clinicals concurrent with theory as Cali requires, end of story.

Yes, sorry I didn't clarify that...

Emtpbill, the only way you might be able to work in Cali is through a federal facility such as the VA or BOP
