Hi,
I am beginning to study for the Transition to RN Role, Excelsior College Nursing Exam. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether the practice exams that you can purchase from Excelsior are exactly like the actual test? I took the first of two practice exams last night and did fairly well. I was wondering if any of those questions would be on the "actual" exam that we have to take at the testing center?
Appreciate any insight. :)

I have found the practice exams to be very helpful. There were even some of the questions on the exam from the practice exams. I just took health safety and only scored a 69 and a 73 on the practice exams but got an actual A on the regular exam!!

Hello, are the practice exams really helpful? do you have to read every chapter they recommend in the study guide?

Yes,it is very helpful if you read the recommend Chapters as this is the information that you will need to help you answer the questions to the actual exams. You need to read to be able to understand, how to apply the 5 Steps or 6 Steps of The Nursing Process and how they apply to the exams!!!! This is what you will be doing when you take the actual exams using your Steps of the Nursing Process.

Super helpful most of the time. Reading is mandatory their exact chapters some people don't read but they still succeed. Memorizing the practice exam isn't going to get you a passing score. They should be used as a guideline. The distance learning forum has lots of information about the practice exams and actual exams. As well as the EPN on the Excelsior communities forums.
Ok, thanks. I just find it very hard to read page after page in the book. I learn more by reading power points and lots of questions and answers like NCLEX style. I like to see the question and all the rationales for every answer to know why or why not to choose a certain answer. And what is distance learning forum? I'm still not familiar with what's available on excelsior website.
I was referring to the Distance learning forum here on allnurses: link.
Then if you log into your MyExcelsior page at the top there are communities as an option I believe and you select nursing discussion boards or when you are logged into your practice exam the main page should show discussion boards and you follow the links to the nursing EPN where there is tons of helpful information and you can post questions for the faculty.
Thanks for your help.

you need to register to take H&S exam before you can register to take the practice test. Call EC, they are very helpful. There are 8 nursing theory exams, not counting the generals needed.
you will have to register first but make sure not to enroll yet. you do not need to pay the $895 yet. you can take the health safety and the transition to the registered professional nurse role exams without being enrolled. also, LPNs don't have to take the health differences exam.
