Evolve HESI Book Should I or Shouldn't I?

Hello all-

I am looking at this book (link below) titled: Evolve Reach Testing and Remediation Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination (Evolve Reach Testing & Remediation Comprehensive Review).

http://www.amazon.com/Testing-Remediation-Comprehensive-NCLEX-RN%C3%82%C2%AE-Examination/dp/1416047751/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266775456&sr=8-2

Has anyone used this book and if so is it a yay or nay? I'm pondering adding it to my collection for studying for the HESI exit exam.

we had to get it for our final semester (current semester)...great book actually. it doesnt have everything we need to know, but the stuff it does have is really useful

I thought it was useful. It isn't perfect, but I think it is the best option out there. I hadn't taken biology/chemistry in 4 years, I hadn't taken anatomy in 1 year, and I had never taken physiology. I hadn't done that type of math since elementary school. I only studied for about a week and I got a 97% on the exam.

If you are REALLY worried about the exam, find another school that requires the exam, pay the $$, and take it. Then, going into the "real" exam, you'll have already seen the exam and know exactly how to focus your studying. That's what I did :)

i have to disagree with the above posts... lol

my study group and i found the book to be useless! i used the saunders review instead and passed hesi with flying colors. i gave the hesi book away.

No offense, but I can't imagine your post warrants much credibility. You have 3 years experience as a RN and nursing school is at least 2 years which means the version of the Hesi A2 study guide you used was at least 5 years old...

There some factors into doing well on the hesi; what version will the student recieve, is the student weak on certain content or does he/ she have trouble with applying critcal thinking. From my experience version 1 I recieved an 782, because I did not put effort into studying, version 2 I had a 881, I put more effort that time and third was an 843, I was burn out at that time. From what I read in the forum and speaking to my fellow students, everybody has certain technique on doing well with hesi, each person has fine what works best for them. Example, reading the hesi book and doing the hesi CD could work for one person but not the other or doing 200 questions a day. Me personally speaking the book was only good for memorizing lab values ( every information that I came across had different lab values), CD was good only because it prepared me to critcal think plus it's lot harder than the exit hesi ( So if you got 60 - 70 %,:banghead: Do NOT get discouraged!!!!!) I pass the hesi on the second try because our class fought with the dean to bring passing rate back to the orginal score 850.However, if going to purchase a book GET NCLEX review by Mary Ann hogan.

P.S. The company does not come up with many new questions, I took the mid circricular back in 07, you would not believe how many old hesi questions came back. I'm not advocating cheating, but but if you know someone with old hesi questions :uhoh3: it could be advantageous!!!!!

my class chipped in and bought a hesi cd with online access to hesi questions

$$$$$ made lots of copies

found it very useful and did great on hesi and nclex

i did a 3 year BSN program and took HESI in 2006. I don't know how old that HESI book was, I don't know how often they release a new edition either... the opinion of allnurses.com members was asked and i gave my opinion. I tried using the book, as did my fellow nursing school class at that time. Pretty much everyone agreed that the book was not that helpful and eventually moved on to other study guides. Maybe there's a newer and improved HESI book now and that's what the students now are using.

I used the Saunders review for NCLEX-RN and got one of the top 10 scores on HESI in my graduating class of about 115.

Like I said, this is my experience and my opinion. Clearly others have different experience and opinions with the HESI book.

Cheers :)

I didn't have a choice, we had to buy it for senior year, which was when we took the HESI (if we didn't get at least an 800 on one out of three tries, we didn't graduate without having to prove we had paid for and were taking a remediation course). I didn't mind the Evolve one that bad, seeing as they are the ones who do the HESI and the online resources are actually pretty good.

Message for RNMLIS Did the online Hesi Practest help you all on the exam..... wow my school can not purchase it can u email me at [email protected]. i want to ask you a question plssssssssssssssss thanks

To RNMLIS what was your score on the Hesi? Please email me at [email protected] I have tons of questions
