4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Evidence Based Practice is my last nursing course and I have to say that so far I am not impressed. I thought the so-called "activity" was an activity not a quiz so thank goodness it was non-graded. It has not been fun navigating to find everything we need and my stuff on BB didn't show up until the afternoon of the 28th. I'm scared to death to take the quiz as the study guide is vague to say the least. I will be so glad when this is over.

I'm dreading the quiz. I really wish there was more consistency with the class, since I think they all have the same instructor. Some get a study guide, some don't. Someone mentioned "know the study guide". That's not going to help since my section didn't get one. Frustrating...

Just submitted my literature search assignment. All I've left to do now is the quiz (need/want to re-read chapter 11 since I did horribly on the ethics assignment thing) and my 2 discussion board replies. 4 more weeks...

My TA reported the same thing...cannot edit posts. Oh, how I miss Epic! Is there a lot of reading in Excellence? I have been tempted to double up next session with Leadership (4580) but I don't know if that will be too much to swallow in 5 weeks. However, I would love to be done in Nov!

You know it is really not too bad, it is just busy work. Some weeks have two DB and two case studies. No quizzes however and that is always a plus in my book. The book for the course is titled "Basic of the US healthcare system" so that gives you an idea of what the reading is like lol From what I can tell the three "papers" in the course are just like DB-needed 2-4 well developed paragraphs just with intro and conclusion in APA paper format. It does not look like too difficult of a class. The one thing I just do not know about in your case is that Leadership will be one of the new combined classes correct? I had taken management and strategic planning separate which were straightforward classes but also busy. If you could locate a syllabus from the combined class before that would probably be best for you in deciding. I can send you the syllabus on excellence.

I found this link about using the respondus lockdown browser. http://www.respondus.com/downloads/RLDB-Quick-Start-Guide-Bb-Student.pdf It states that if a BB test requires this browswer you will not be able to take the test without it. Since I was able to take the test, I was still assuming that I had it installed. However, when reading further about this browser it states that you have to first open it from your desktop shortcut, then log in to BB and naviagte to the quiz/test. I did not do that and was still able to take the test. I searched my computer and as far as I can tell, I do not have this particular browser installed on it. Now I'm fairly confused about this browser. If this is so important for taking a quiz, then why is there no information about it from the instructor or TAs?

I happened to take it by mistake because I registered for it too early and I was not denied so then I checked with my advisor and she said it doesn't necesary have to be taken last. Makes no sense to me at all. The one thing I disliked about the capstone class is that they give you a ton of busy work to do and you get so wrapped up in getting it all done in time that you don't actually absorb the material. I think they could condense it a little. I think one week we had 3 discussions and then there were activities taken from the book so all in all there were like 7 assignments for that whole week.

Hmmm...I don't havethe browser either, but took the test and received my less-than-acceptable score. No issues with taking and submitting. I'm afraid to inquire as this usually results in further confusion. Anyone???

Oh no, this makes me second guess the notion of doubling up. A ton of busy work, huh...graduate in Nov??? I dunno...

The bonus is that there are no quizzes though. It is doable and I think they were fair in grading. I took the exellence class with a cross cultural class and an english and still ended up getting A's in all of them.

I really had to push myself but I got it done.

This may seem like a stupid question but when you did the literature seach assignment did you use their exaple of the elderly living with diabetes 2 or did you use another research topic? It does not specify what topic we need to use. I'm not liking this assignment and am in panic mode even though we have til Tues. to turn it in. This is not my cup of tea at all. Thank you in advance for your suggestions and help.
