I just wanted to know if there is a magic website out there that will tell you that you are eligible for some kind of scholarship, or something. How does everyone pay for school? I am having a hard time paying for pre-req's, have to take 1-2 classes at a time, cant afford anything else. Feel like it's going to take me forever to finish. Help......

Do you not qualify for financial aid (assuming you are attending a school that is federally accredited to offer financial aid assistance)? With my other college degrees I relied heavily on federal/school financial aid which paid for books, classes, and extra money left over for whatever I needed. Grants, loans, and work study primarily. Now that I am attending Concorde for their VN program, I was approved for Stafford loans to help offset the costs but I am now having to pay extra monthly payments to the school while attending school with no money to spare. :( It's a ripoff but a price I have to pay to get my VN license. Check with your schools financial aid department and see what you may qualify for, they can also refer you to scholoarships that may meet your needs. Good luck. :)

Hello

I'm attending one of the MOST expensive school in US. My tuition is approx. $17,000 per semester and NOT including books and misc. I pay my tuition with federal loans, financial aid (Tap), personal saving, working part-time (1 day a week), and loan from my dear sister. While I'm going to school, my dear husband pays all the bills. So, I'm pretty lucky to have very supportive family.

I tried applying to scholarships but no luck with it and I don't have the time to waste waiting. I rather take out loan(s) and pay back when I'm done with school.

Always check with your school's fianancial aid office, they should tell what you're qualify for such as loans, grants, scholarship, work-study, etc.

Good luck!

Have you completed the FAFSA form? I have paid for school with a few scholarships but mostly federal student loans. I have been able to get enough student loans to pay for tuition, books, and supplies. Try going to your financial aid office at school, mine have always been very helpful. Also, I have had to work at least 30 hours/week to pay bills. It is not fun but can be done. Beats being in school forever. I graduate this December with my BSN. :) Good luck!!

Since I was a single person with a job that paid $40,000 yearly, I did not qualify for financial aid. I attended an expensive LVN program and financed the entire $20,000 tuition with a Sallie Mae student loan.

2 loans and numerous scholarships + a generous financial aid packet.

I have a nursing loan that my school offered, and I have my Stafford loans managed through Sallie Mae. I borrowed approx. 30grand in loans, which i just started paying back..and its not fun.

However, borrowing loans gave me the opportunity to go to nursing school, since without them I wouldnt have been able to go to school.

If I were you, I would check with your schools financial aid dept - *Most* students dont pay full price for tuition- you just need to ask what to apply for.

Just to give you an idea of potential savings:

My school: 25000/year. (100,000 total for 4 years)

Loans: 30,000

Scholarships and other forms of financial aid + my financial aid packet- approx 70,000

So, I dont consider my loans bad for the price of my schooling. It just goes to show you that if you look around for scholarships, talk to schools (they normally offer a good financial aid package, and if not you can ask for them to reconsider what they are offering you), and just keep on persisting about finding scholarships, you'll be able to.

Good luck!

I decided to go to community college to get my RN, then transfer to a more expensive university to get my BSN and MSN. Government grants pay for all my tuition plus books at the community college. I found a scholarship on the school web site that was for anyone who rides the bus to school.

When I go to university, I will have to work part time as an RN to pay for school but I am willing...as long as I am able.

Good luck on your money hunt!

Amanda

With my financial aid package from Concorde, I was only allotted approx. $10k in federal students loans, the other $8.5k I have to pay while in school. :sofahider:
