Hello all,
I know there are already a couple of posts for this school, but reading through the threads I didn't get all the information that I was looking for and considering that they are pretty old threads I made a new one because I didn't think anyone would look at those anymore. I've already completed all my prereqs at a community college, but I don't want to wait around forever to get into the community college rn program.
Anyways, I wanted to find out for those who are already in the program or have the info. What kind of studying should I do for their entrance exam? What kind of stuff comes in the tests. I also would like to know the cost or estimated cost of the school. And how do they go about choosing the students for the program? What exactly is the application process?
I've already called the school, but the lady that answered the phone wasn't able to give me much info except for that info sessions are in August and the program starts up again in January.
And if you are already in the program, I would like to know how to do you find the teachers to be?? Would you say that this is a good academic choice??
Please help me as I live really far away from this school and I am moving out there just for the program. It is a little difficult for me to just drive over to visit the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Yes, I am in my first quarter at Everest. Have to go to bed now becuase I have a 6am class tomorrow. which means I am up by 4:15am and out of my house by 4:50am. All worth it to be in a nursing program:coollook:
How are you liking Everest so far? Do you still feel it was a good decision or do you feel like you shouldve maybe gone another route? Have you heard anything about clinical sites? Do they seem limited? I want to get my RN license but am not sure if I am going to go the LVn route first and then do a bridge program later on. THough my local community college is ALOT less expensive its getting harder to get classes and the nursing program is a lottery system. Ive looked into West Coast but it costs $150k + to attend so I just dont see paying that much and being in so much debt right when I get out of school. Ive heard Everest is half that amount. Just not sure of the program itself since it seems to be a fairly new program and there are no passing rates for the NCLEX posted for them yet
... I want to get my RN license but am not sure if I am going to go the LVn route first and then do a bridge program later on...
That was my plan, too. Many schools list an LVN-RN Bridge Program but ask them how many students actually get in to them. So far, 5 schools that I've talked to have admitted 2 students into their bridge programs in the last 5 years. Not good odds.
Are you familiar at all with Everest? I havent heard from anyone that has actually gone there to be able to see how there classes and structure are- I just want to make sure I dont pay 52k + and then not be able to get a job anywhere afterwards - and have you gone to their information meeting yet?
I will admit there are things about the school I dont like, but that is with the school itself. The nursing program there is in its own little world and I have not had any problems yet. Part of me thought that since its a trade school the classes wouldnt be as tough. But to my surprise they are. The classes I am in that are for the nursing program are very demanding.
The thing is, the classes you must take and pass have guidelines set by the board of registered nursing, not everest themselves. Passing the NCLEX-RN will come down to how well you can comprehend and apply knowledge. 2 students with the exact same education taking the test may have opposite results of their test and that is due to how they personally perform and test. I have taken state boards before for licensure in a different field of health care and I saw that many, many people get nervous and it will affect your test. Girls in my same program who were very smart in our field failed the boards because of the way you take tests. In the end of the program we will be taking an NCLEX preparation course to better prepare us, and I also plan on doing one on my own time to ensure that I pass.
As far as "limited clinicals" I cannot say because I am not at that stage yet but I think any j.c. is limited as well. I have personally been in the hospital as a patient and seen rn students from the local jc who didnt even know how to take my blood pressure
Im pretty sure no jc or csu will accept the units. Everest is accredited but it isnt by WASC, which is what all the jcs and csus are. Its a trade school so they dont offer a broad range of classes, only program specific ones. They do have an articulation agreement with University of Phoenix that will transfer all your classes. They have an RN to BSN program and an RN to MSN program. The RN to BSN is 20k and they have it online, in class, and hybrid ( I called). This school is a very popluar choice for many RNs I have met who are now working on their BSN. My hopes are to secure a job with the ADN and do classes online while working to get the BSN. Some employers even offer tuition reimbursement so I am quite hopeful. Any other questions you have dont hesitate to ask I will answer as much as I possible can.
I'm not certain if it's worth your time and money since it appears that no Cal State BSN program will accept Everest credits even though you may have a ADN-RN degree from Everest.
Does anyone have any input regarding the LVN to RN bridge program at El Camino-Compton? At least at this school, you have a chance to transfer earned credits to a Cal State BSN program once you have your ADN-RN.

The ADN program at Everest College, from my experience was horrible. there are hesi test you must pass per class and they dont even provide you the book. The program is very unorganized and and clinical experience is somewhat limited. Also be sure to get on the instructors good side otherwise you might be a target. Teachers have the freedom to lecture on what ever they want and your word against the instructors is not taken seriously. You minus well read the book urself most instructors just read the power points. Attendance is also an issue here depending on if the instructor remembers if you were present or not make sure you get credit for those days. i think tuition increases every july im nor sure. I would look elsewhere
