Everest College Ontario RN program

Published

Hello all,

I know there are already a couple of posts for this school, but reading through the threads I didn't get all the information that I was looking for and considering that they are pretty old threads I made a new one because I didn't think anyone would look at those anymore. I've already completed all my prereqs at a community college, but I don't want to wait around forever to get into the community college rn program.

Anyways, I wanted to find out for those who are already in the program or have the info. What kind of studying should I do for their entrance exam? What kind of stuff comes in the tests. I also would like to know the cost or estimated cost of the school. And how do they go about choosing the students for the program? What exactly is the application process?

I've already called the school, but the lady that answered the phone wasn't able to give me much info except for that info sessions are in August and the program starts up again in January.

And if you are already in the program, I would like to know how to do you find the teachers to be?? Would you say that this is a good academic choice??

Please help me as I live really far away from this school and I am moving out there just for the program. It is a little difficult for me to just drive over to visit the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

A&P and Nutrition will probably transfer. If your English class is a composition class, it probably will too, as will English Comp II, College Algebra, Microbiology and American Lit.

I'm on the cash plan and pay for 9 months worth of tuition over a period of 12 months, and then we "repack" at month 10. I can only guess that those with financial aid pack for 9 months, too. Don't hold me to it, though. :uhoh3:

Time is money for me. Well, gold, since I'm 30. I can get over the fact that I've spent upwards of $50k for tuition, so long as I'm a nurse by 33...35 even. The idea of being in school until my son is 14 (he's 7 now) didn't sit well with me. And so came Everest...and as I said in my latest post, I'm very happy. :)

Good luck with whatever it is you choose to do! Feel free to ask as many questions as you wish...

Kimoleka, how many years do you have left? Are your classes M-F?

I want to get into the program asap. How long does the progress take? I know it's too late to apply for Fall but my goal is to be in the RN program by next year. Does anyone know if the ADN will transfer to CSULB for the BSN?

I'm only 7 weeks in. Currently, I have one class on campus and that's Wed and Fri (lecture & lab), but some people have both on Wed. I have two classes online. This is just me, though--I was able to transfer my English Comp class.

I went to the information session at the end of August 2010, tested at the end of Sept 2010, interviewed by Nov (if I remember right), and completed the financial aid portion at the end of December. Doesn't seem like much, but the waiting kept me at the edge of my seat!

It'll be hard to transfer your Everest credits to CSULB, but I won't say it's impossible--someone recently transferred their units to CSUSB. Talk to the people at Long Beach and ask them. If not, you can pursue your BSN at Kaplan or University of Phoenix; both are regionally accredited (acc. to the nursing director, regionally is better than nationally). Since you have time, though, use it to research which schools would accept Everest credits.

Hope this helps!

When you're in the interview, do they look if you have worked in the medical field or volunteered at a hospital or anything related to nursing? I'm CPR/ First Aid certified but I haven't volunteered at a hospital or really worked in the medical field. I've work on cadavers for anatomy and that is probably the closest I've been to anything physically hands on.

There's no waitlist at Everest right? Just as long as you pass the two entrance exam and the interview you're in?

I don't have an ounce of medical experience, and I got my BS in a field that couldn't be further from relevant.

There's no waitlist, but there is a list of over a thousand people trying to get into the program and only 40 of which will make it. You have to pass all portions of the HESI A2 exam, shine (and I mean SHINE) during the interview. They say only 25% of those who take the test will actually pass, 25% of those people will get called in for an interview and the first 40 of that last 25% to get through financial aid will make it into the program. Or something to that effect. Definitely not as easy as it sounds.

So now there's only 1 entrance exam instead of 2? Or did they just change the COMPASS exam to the HESI exam?

If I don't get in for Fall, do they accept applicants for Spring or will I have to start the whole process all over (exam, interview)?

Also, do they take into consideration your GPA from other universities? I took classes at GWC, OCC, Cypress and CSULB or do they just want the A&P, Nutrition, English and Chem from those schools?

Thanks for your help btw!

You're welcome :)

They do information sessions two months out of the year, February and August (Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think). After each session is when those in attendance can sign up to take the exam. If you didn't go to the info session last month, it'll be too late for fall. The August sessions will be for the January 2012 start. And yes, they switched from the two tests to the one HESI A2 exam.

They said GPA is a factor, but that it's one of many and not a deal breaker if it's unsatisfactory. When it comes to transferring classes, they just care that you received a C or better in the class.

So if I go to the info session in august and all goes well I can start the program Jan 2012?

If you get past the exam and interview but don't make it, you can be rolled over for the next session without having to do it all over again.

That's right :)

Oh that's good to hear. I just called to a few JC schools around here and they said that any new applicants won't be admitted until 2014, if you're lucky. So since the information seminar isn't until August, are there any classes that you would suggest me taking at CSULB or at a community college during the summer or maybe even Fall to make it a little easier for admissions to Everest?

Thanks again!!!
