That's what I love about school nursing.....no docs, supervisors or other nurses. Now, I love my fellow school nurses in my district. We talk by email/text or call when needed. We also have meetings during the year so we get to catch up. I work great by myself and love the autonomy that comes with my job. I have worked the floors and I did not feel rewarded, have laughs or a flexible schedule. That was just me. Many nurses enjoy working the floors or other specialties. I will retire a school nurse God willing. :-)
...YOU BET!!!!! I work part time at a pediatric urgent care clinic which reminds me why I like school nursing; It's just me, myself, and I...That's what I love about school nursing.....no docs, supervisors or other nurses. I'm very content not being around any dr's or techs. Dr's always telling you what to do right now and always having to tell techs what you need done and hope they don't get irritated-don't miss that at all. I sometimes miss working side by side with another nurse but we can always call another nurse in our district to vent or for help. I enjoy being on my own and not micro-managed. I don't feel lonely, I feel part of the educational team. Most of the staff at both of my schools is very friendly. I talk to teachers frequently about certain students and issues, the weather, the whining kids, the teacher's families, problems, etc like you would any co-worker. When I want to vent about school-nursing I call another school nurse or get on here! :)

I love everything I've heard about nursing, or don't mind what I've heard of nursing ( Like messes). Everything sounds great, the social aspect with a varity of people. Co workers and patients..I love hospitals, I'd love to have a good knowlegde of medicine, and you'll feel rewarded, have laughs, and live decently, and a flexible scedule later on.
One thing though, about school nursing. Do you ever get lonely? You're not around docs or usually other nurses or techs or anything. You can talk to the teachers but can you as well as another nurse? Do you ever feel lonely?
Phone post! Sorry!
