have you ever failed a pre req more than once and years later retake the course and got an A? did you get in a nursing program?

I took A&P I at my undergrad college and ended up with a 'D.' Once I graduated (I was psych major), I knew that I would need to retake A&P I and II because 1) I needed a 'C' or better 2) I needed both A&P I and II and 3) Most places require that you take A&P I and II at the same college.

I ended up getting an 'A' in them at community college. I also got into the nursing program at the same community college. (I probably should have pursued a 2nd degree bachelors - but I want to see how I liked nursing before putting in so much money.)

I highly recommend that you take these courses alone (with no other pre-reqs) if science is not your strong suit. How have you been studying? How long do you put into these classes? Maybe it's too much with your other classes.

No. In my opinion, not to offend anyone, if one doesn't have capacity to do pre-reqs, no way they can do nursing.

However, if your case is your study habits.. If your study habits are THAT bad that you fail a class twice with a F, again, no way in nursing. Nursing school requires lots of studying. May sound negative, but true.

I've recently changed my major from microbiology to Public Health. I am planning on applying to Nursing school, however I have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0. I have failed 3 science classes

Chem II- F

Bio 2- D+

Gen Chem- D

I am planning on re-taking Chem II and Bio II, I passed Chem I with a C and bio I with an A

Are my shots of getting into nursing school completely over? I am planning on getting my bachelors and applying to second degree programs. I'm 19. I'll be graduating next fall and I am slightly depressed right now. Even if I get A's in Chem II and Bio II, do I have a chance?

Okay, to be perfectly honest.. A&P 1 and 2 lay a pretty wide foundation for nursing, so if you are struggling with that and also other science courses, then you can pretty much bet you will have a hard time making it in nursing school. That being said, there is always hope to change habits. In my school, we have labs where you can go and get help. If that is available to you, then by all means make use of them! Find a method of studying that works for YOU. Everyone learns and retains differently. However, you can't expect to succeed in classes like A&P unless you study regularly. Sure, you can PASS, but personally just passing isn't good enough. I am a little anal that way.

Here is what worked for me: Go to class! Take notes! If the professor wrote on the board, it went in my notes. Get with a group of people and form a study group! You can quiz each other on the material and also if you don't understand the material chances are one of your buddies might. If study groups aren't your thing, quiz yourself. All time spent with the material is beneficial. My professors use power points a lot, so I will highlight the slides that I sense are important. I made notecards for stuff. Just rewriting it helped.

Science classes are difficult, but not impossible and truth of the matter is that a lot of the time it truly depends on the effort you put into it.

Good Luck!!

Yes i have multiple times and I got into nursing school

I would like to point out that most college have rules in relation to this. And they are different from school to school. Many schools will only let you take a class twice. My previous college was like that. However, where I go now they will let you take the class as many times as you want, but they only look at the first two attempts. I think it maybe a good idea to go nursing department and ask them these questions.

another study hint i tried when i was faced with a very challenging class: record it. take your notes, copy what you have to off the screen, but rest in the knowledge that the lecture is in your pocket. that night, take your recorder and your notes, sit down at your computer, and recreate the class-- transcribe the lecture, insert the pictures/graphs/notes to yourself in it (you can insert extra text boxes), and then print it out and read it one more time. do not use any shortcuts like using voice recpgnition software to do your transcription-- part of the benefit of doing it yourself is that it gives you one more pathway into your brain.

if your faculty objects (or if you think they might), get a note from the student learning center or your physician that says you need that crutch. you will have the best notes in the class, there will be no misunderstanding about what your lecturer said, and you will have a nice little binder of the material to use in future for reference.

i guarantee you that this will help you get the material into your head.

GrnTea,

I started doing that this semester it helped so much.

No offense...but if you took A&P and got an F the first time. Why would you make the same mistake again and get an other F? Nursing school is all about study habits. If you can't focus on studying in your prerequisite courses or find the motivation to (even after failing once)...I'm trying to be mean, but you may want to ask yourself if you would be able to push yourself to study in nursing school. You're going to be dealing with peoples lives.

What nursing school did yall get in.

Im in the same boat as we speak. Nursing is what I have wanted to do since forever. I am feeling pretty disappointed in myself, and Ignoring everyone on here that shoot me down, but don't give up

I made an f in anatomy 2 and micro...took it during the summer (8 week course) and made 100 on some of my exams and quizzes. Passed both classes with an a and recommended to be a lab assistant. So please don't be discouraged.
