Estrella Mountain Community College Nursing Program

Published

I am interested in applying for the nursing program at this college. Could really use the advice of any current or former alumni from this particular program especially if they have of are doing the CEP. What I am interesting in knowing is: waiting list? How was the HESI A2? How do they let you know you got accepted into the program? Thanks!

I am CEP block 1 at EMCC right now. The waitlist is no issue if you're doing CEP route. The Hesi entrance is just English and math. Brush up on fractions and decimals, the English I found to be very easy. They typically do acceptance emails and regular mail.

Thank you for your reply! The English part of the HESI A2 - Did that just consist of reading passages, vocab and grammar? What University did you choose if you don't mind me asking and what influenced your decision to go with that University for the CEP? Sorry for all the questions. Just curious! :)

I'm not in EMCC but its CEP program is one of my top choices. I also heard nothing but good things about the program

Hey AZBlueBell... I was wondering, did you guys do clinicals at Block 1 in Assisting living/Nursing home or at hospital? Also do you have to take a medication exam after each block and how about an Hesi exit exam?

Yes the English was reading comprehension, word usage, vocab, and grammar things.

I'm with UIU. I chose them because I had all but two classes I needed to apply for them and needed more than that for NAU. So I took those two classes in 8 weeks last spring so that I could apply for the CEP June 2015. I would've been delayed in applying if I tried for NAU or ASU. Also the advisor I dealt with through UIU was (and still is) incredibly helpful and on top of things, always getting back to me with any questions I have and checking in to see if things are going well. I've been happy with my choice of UIU so far, I'm in my third UIU course right now. My instructor for the last class was also block 4 instructor for Mesa CC and the one I have now is a block 1 instructor for Scottsdale CC. I'm happy with my UIU experience!

Yes, block 1 is older adults and clinicals are typically assisted living facilities. My cohort had 4 clinical groups, 3 were assisted living facilities and the other one was banner Boswell rehab (skilled nursing facility). So we still dealt with older adults but the difference was they were not in the facility for the rest of their life, they were getting better to go home (or to go to assisted living).

I'll jump in here as well. Yes, you do take an exit HESI after each block.

Thanks I missed those other questions! Yes, HESI exit after each block. And for the medication, we had to do 100% on our dosage calculation exam in order to go to clinicals. And there were med questions on every test. We never had a separate test for meds with the exception of the math one we had to pass before clinicals.

Thank you AZBlueBell and Rachelofcourse for your responses. When you take the Hesi Exit exam, do you have to pass and does it count towards your final grade? Also what happens if you fail, do you do remediation or you fail the course? Also is Hesi exit exam for every lecture class class or just one Hesi exit exam for each block?

Awesome! Thanks again for answering my questions. I really appreciate it :) Congrats with getting into the nursing program and Good luck with everything! Sounds like you're on the road to success. I hope to be there too in the near future!
