Entry level hospital jobs???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone. I'm starting my first semester of prereqs this spring.. and I HAVE to work. My boyfriend and I have our own apartment. He bartends/serves and I quit my job of waiting tables because my employer would not cut back my hours for me to go to school.

I would like to work in the medical field some how some way.

Do any of you know any jobs that I can apply for at entry-level in the medical field? I have 3 years of serving experience and thats about it.

Volunteer at a hospital or clinic to help get your foot in the door. Take your pre-reqs after doing a CNA program. That's my advice :)

Get a CNA certificate and work as a CNA. You can work as little as one shift a week and get credit for that toward entry into some nursing programs. It will give you a leg up in the admissions process.

I am already registered for classes. I think its too late to be a CNA. I love the thought of that though. Thanks :)

What about a nursing home job? My mom used to work in one with no experience

Great idea I'll go check out the local nursing homes tomorrow. :)

Thank you

We have 2 weeks CNA classes here in MI...maybe you could finish up before school starts back...good luck!

That sound great! Im very doubtful about texas though. :/ I will look into it :)

We are almost in the same situation. I start my prereqs in January. I am in line to start volunteering for the VA and for a hospice, which I found out about both opportunities through a website. Not sure if we can give those here so if you would like that information feel free to message me. Also here in FL you are not required to pay a ton of money to become a CNA. I basically took a class which had a total of 12 lecture hours over 2 weeks to prepare me to pass a written and practical exam. There is also an online component. Once I pass that, I will take med tech and PCT II skills and be given 24 CEUs once I take those classes, which are also online. Yesterday I took a BLS class and got my certification as a health care provider, in 2 hours.

Where our situation differs is that I lost my job in corporate America, a job that I knew I didn't see myself retiring from. I had decided, before being let go, to go back to school part-time, just me losing my job accelerated things a bit. So I will be going back full-time.

I would love it if you would pm me that!

I know I could do a two week cab course now that I have done a little research, but I did not see anything under $450 :/

You can definitely still take the CNA class. I didn't take it right away. I just had my second interview at a large local hospital last Friday as a patient care assistant. Hoping to get good news tomorrow that I have the job!

I have been working as a CNA at a nursing home for 10 months, my hospital interviewer did say she liked that I had experience. Good luck!

In my state one can only work in a LTC facility for four months before a CNA certificate is required. Some facilities provide the training on site free.
