English (Career) Assignment

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hello, I am doing an assignment for my English class that requires me to research a person that is currently in the job field of being a Registered Nurse (in ON, Canada). It is also preferred that the person is in an Emergency Department type setting.

If this sounds like you, and you would be willing to share some information about you and your job, please let me know!

Thanks so much!

For the purpose of the paper I can. :p

Specializes in Gerontology.

Here's the thing. Just as you don't know that anyone here is a real nurse, we have no way to verify that you are a real nursing student

i could give you my real name, real workplace and real phone number. And a month from now I discover that someone is using that info as a reference for someone, or is applying for credit cards in my name, or a dozen other things.

I wish schools would stop this practise of asking students to interview strangers.

Well to be honest, I think interviewing others is a great idea, but I don't think doing it through an online forum is the way to do it.

I feel if a student wants to interview a nurse, or any other reason they may need personal information, it would be better practiced if the "playing field" so to speak, was more even.

Rather than just giving out your personal info, you get some of theirs as well. (Name, phone number, instructor's number even). Just so you both know a little about each other and if (god forbid) something starts happening such as new open credit lines, then at least you have a way to trace the person you gave this information to.

She can pretend she lives in a mansion complete with a maid, chef, and chauffeur since the OP said she was pretending.

I can pretend too. I'm Peter Pann. I'd like to pretend to live and work in Canada today too because I owe Uncle Sam money. Do you think he accepts pretend money?

OP have you considered going to a hospital website, finding the name of the Chief Nursing Officer or whatever you would call the person in Canada, and plug in the information. You could likely "research" this person, find their contact information, etc. much easier than hounding strangers who aren't willing to divulge personal information.

Since you are asking us OP, what is your real name, work address, phone number, and area you work in? How comfortable do you feel posting this on a well-traveled website?

I don't think it's the practice of having students interview nurses that's a bad idea; rather, it's that students think it's okay to come to an anonymous online forum to complete their assignment. There are so many other benefits to talking face to face with a real nurse (networking opportunity, getting an unvarnished glimpse of nursing reality, etc) that go beyond that assignment. Heck, I got an eye-opening view of transitioning from staff nurse to educator while in school when I talked with a nurse educator for an interview assignment- and I am very grateful to have learned that information that otherwise I wouldn't have learned.

Please tell me you have this saved in your computer so you can just copy and past. If not, kudos to you for trying it out every time:)

I absolutely do, and feel free to save it to yours and copy-and-paste it too. :)
