endorsement of license from california to las vegas

Published

hi! first of all, i would like to thank all the moderators and members of this website because this site helped me lot to pass my nclex...those mnemonics and test strategies had been so helpful...:yeah:

since i already passed my exam , me and my boyfriend decided to get married...with this, i need to relocate from california to las vegas( he is a military man..they usually get stationed from one state to another)...pls, can someone help me how to endorse my license from california to las vegas...

the california BON mailed me a letter asking for my SS number...would it be possible for me to process my endorsement together with my license? can i mail my ss number together with the endorsement form that the NEVADA BON is asking? or i have to process and wait for my license first then process my endorsement ( i think, this will just prolong my wait...i really need to start working)...i appreciate your replies...thank you so much!

You have to be properly licensed in one state before you can endorse to another, and since the CA BRN is still contacting you about information they need, it sounds like you're not yet licensed in CA. You'll need to send them whatever they need to process your application completely and assign you a license number before you can apply for endorsement to Nevada.

If you do not have a SSN, you do not have an initial California license. California will not license anyone unless the person has provided a SSN on the application.

And since you do not have an initial California license, you cannot endorse into any other state. A person must have an active nursing license from any one of the 50 states in order to endorse into another state.

No nursing license = no endorsement (you have no license to endorse)

However, individuals in this situation (passed NCLEX for CA licensure but have no SSN) can apply for licensure by examination in another state (as if they were starting "from scratch") and ask the CA BRN to transmit their NCLEX results to the other state (there's a fee for that service, but they do it).

This is true. However, someone who is in this situation would need to locate a state with a BON that will allow candidates to obtain initial licensure without having a SSN. There are some state BONs that do not require a SSN as a condition of initial licensure.

if california BON does not allow for a license without SSN. den how in the the world are international students gonna apply?

You cannot. Technically all US states are to require a SSN to apply for and /or receive a professional license. CA, MD, VT, & AZ already have implemented this mandate and other states are in the process of at least requiring a valid-for-work SSN before issuing the license (you can apply, sit for NCLEX but won't be issued a license until you provide a valid SSN. (Citizen, legal permanent resident, or work-authorized non-resident on a valid visa)

The good news is Nevada is generally SUPER fast processing licenses and you can get an temporary permit to practice in a week or two after they have received all documentation. Plus they are available on the phone too, without a lot of waiting, and I have found everyone at the office to be very kind and helpful.
