EMT for Exelsior

Published

Hi, I know this is probably a dumb question, but, I am asking because I have no nursing experience and I am hearing about this program for RN's at Excelsior and that sounds so great...but you have to have a health care background before admission... so will an EMT work?

I know this is not the place for this topic but I wanted to sure and ask someone who has graduated.

Thanks.

There are several programs that will bridge an EMT-P to RN, Excelsior has one such program.

You are out of luck if you are not a paramedic.

Please look on the Excelsior website: http://www.excelsior.edu. Most questions about the program are answered there. You are free to email or call the personnel at Excelsior. They are very friendly and helpful. If you decide to enroll with Excelsior, then you will have to become familiar with their website and how to contact them anyway, so it is a good idea to learn how to navigate their site early. Good luck with your plans.

If you are not a PARAMEDIC then no, I am sorry they will not train EMT only

not anymore .ec accepted emt's several years ago but stopped. if you are a paramedic you could qualify for admission but not emt. one thing you need to understand about ec is that it is for people with substantial clinical experience. you have no clinicals with ec but only a clinical evaluation at the end. this program is not easier than others it may be more convenient ,but definitely not easier.

There really isn't an "easy" way to become qualified to do the Excelsior program ... the students that meet the criteria for acceptance often have hundreds of hours of clinicals and experience. If you're determined to do the Excelsior thing, I'd recommend doing an LPN program, then doing the LPN to RN. :)

Hey Everyone. New to the site. Applied yesterday for EC and now after being here for a while Im a lil worried. Im an EMT-P and know that they do accept this certification, yet I see very few other medics on this site. Is there a reason for this? In all honesty, I only became a paramedic so that later I could bridge to nursing. I hope I didnt make a huge mistake. Would love to hear from other medics who are in the program or have completed it. Im starting to feel a little lonely here! :uhoh3:

Excelsior will take EMT's. But do your research first:) I hear it is wonderful for EMT, paramedic, respiratory therapy, physical therapists, etc. Good luck!

Just to clarify what Melinurse said, not all EMTs are eligible; EMT-B/EMT-I people are not eligible ... EMT-P level providers are eligible. :)

Michelle, I'm an NREMT-P/Virginia EMT-P -- I'm almost done with the EC program! There are a few of us around, but this is a very popular route for LPNs/LVNs, so there does seem to be more of them. :)

Thanks! I was pretty sure they took medics, but I did notice almost everyone was an LPN. I did a lot of research when I started thinking about nursing and knew it would take years (literally) to get into a program around here the way the wait lists are. So I took the paramedic so I could just bridge in. There are local programs around here for EMT-P to RN bridge, but with 3 children I think EC will work better for me, even if it does cost more. Anyway, I'll be a regular on this site now because I had millions of questions; many of which have already been answered just by reading the threads. Im SSOOO excited, and I only just applied yesterday!! :D
