Employee of the month yet written up 4 insubordination and put on 60days probation.

Nurses Safety

I need feedbacks from anyone re: this. I am Charge nurse, got an employee of the month yet on this same month I was written up for insubordination for sending home a prn CNA, who is lazy and sleeps on her shift over a CNA who is a team player, conscientious and signed up for a 7 shift contract. I was also put on probation for 60 days. The reason I was told they( nurse admin) wants to make sure I can do the job as a Charge Nurse. No adv erse writeups to support this. All allegations were just rumors and hearsay.

The history behind this, is that most of the team prefer to work with me than the other charge nurse who is bipolar and a pathological lier. A lot of complains were brought to admin regarding her and none by me. Now the table is turn around me. Please comment. I appreciate everyone's feedback.

The prn CNA got fired, she got caught sleeping!. The other one, who was also "employee of the month", is still there. Smoothing his way. He must have some immunity of some sorts to get away with so many write ups. I am aware he's got a lot. From me he must have 5-6. Maybe it never got to the right person? Anyway, I am done with that mess. I quit a month ago.

A follow up on this situation. My story is like a sopa opera scene.

Got to work and no CNA working. The one and only working on nights got cancelled and they still cancelled the agency CNA. Reason? None. We had 20 patients! and 5 nurses. Everybody had to do basic care plus chart, pass meds, answer call lights, stuff charts, vitals, I/O, housekeeping, etc. Day shift had 6 nurses plus 3 CNAs! They only did it to me. Sounds like a setup for failure I said. Did the right thing. Called the on call person begged to give me at least 1 CNA. Nope, was answer and I was told that, " we'll discuss this matter sometime". Well, I did not give them that satisfaction of seeing us fail. We almost had a full blown code but caught in time and saved the guy. So, everybody worked hard and missed their lunch break. We ate whenever we can while doing our job. We all put in for no lunch, and I signed their requests. Well, the word coercion came out from management. That I forced people into claiming no lunch. They refused to pay the 30 min no lunch to everybody! Plus, I was instructed to meet with my boss before I went back to my shift to discuss that issue. That was the icing on the cake. I quit that day. I had enough with them and their BS.

Good for you, you're better off out of there.

now i know why they say what goes around will come around. safety does come first.

I'm sorry your:o decision making skills are in question- I would be looking elsewhere for employment were I you.

Sounds like what happened to a nurse I work with recently. She got a little nastygram about some of the pt.s thought she wasn't nice enough and then got the employee of the month in the same moment. What in **** is wrong with these people?

i stopped being "in charge' because my nurse manager would constantly not back me up. one n.a. would spend 45 minutes in one room just talking when she was supposed to be passing ice water and am care supplies to all the pts. then she'd get accolades because the pts she picked as her favs would be spoiled by her and send in letters, meanwhile i'd be answering constant call lights for h20 and supplies from the other 20 pts. she ignored direct instructions that i gave her , but was still 'teflon" in my workplace my nm. plays favs and i'm not one of them..but i have over 20 years in this place so its hard to leave, i constantly put in for other jobs in house, but since i have specialized in obstetrics for 20 years i haven't found anything suitable yet

Friend met with the manager for her yearly eval, was given the highest ratings in all categories, got the highest percentage raise possible... then was handed her termination papers and asked to leave hospital property.

How screwed up is that?

This place sounds like a facility that I worked at. The stories I could tell! Sometimes we just have to decide enough is enough and hit the door. I was the most "honored" nurse on the floor for patient care, new techniques learned, charting, and the doctors appreciated my input, but in the end I quit/was terminated when I caught a CNA putting false VS,I/O, and having sex with BF in supply room not once but 3 times. Each time I was told the problem was being worked on, finally I had to refuse to work with her, she was retained and I was on the street. Later she was caught stealing money from a patient by the NM who happened to be a friend of the patient. I do not regret leaving this place. I sleep better. Look for another job and get out of there, it will save you trouble, stress, and improve your life.

Before you decide to quit. Make a list of the pro's and con's of the job. The grass is not always greener. My current place of employment is rough at times. I am sure that the management team is living on another dimension for some of the rules they put into effect. I stay because I love the people I work with. If you put your feelings on paper and can stand back and look at it objectively (let the anger go for a minute) the answer may become crystal clear.

Good Luck!

This thread is almost a year old. :)

Too funny. Thanks. It is like someone telling you you have green stuff in your teeth. Others may have just let me ramble on.....I wonder if she quit
