Emory Nursing Students!!!!

Hey everyone,

I have applied to the NHWSoN begining Fall 2010. I submited my application packet the first week of September. I am already CrAzY with anxiety. When did you folks here that you were accepted. How soon after you applied?

I met with an advisor last month and she said I should have no problem getting in. I am an Emory employee. I have been a Nurse Tech for ten years (not all at Emory). The 3 letters of recommendation were from: my A&P teacher, another teacher of health sciences, and my boss who is MSN, RN, FNP-C.

I have always wanted to be an Emory Nurse!!!!! Hopefully my dream will come true soon!!!!

Please let me know when you applied to the program and when you got your accpt. letter........jasonwalkeratl

Hello,

From what we have been told Emory does have a great reputation when it comes to resumes and job search. The thing is right now you have nurses with years of experience looking for jobs as well due to the recent economic decline. This is something every nursing student in the metro area should take under consideration. However, like I said before keep your options open. This includes area of work and location as well. No institution can can tell you what the economic future will hold!!

Lynei,

Maybe just one more question... Is getting a 3.0 possible? This might seem like a dumb question, but I have heard read in some of these forums that one should be content with a C at Emory? I want to be a CRNA, and a C is not an option! Thoughts...?

Oh yes a 3.0 is possible!! When we say to be okay with a C we are talking about on a quiz or a test. You can still make good grades in nursing school. The point is learning the skills and not chasing the grade. The objective is to become a GREAT nurse!! The old saying is the CEOs and the COOs of the world all made C's in school ha!!

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone here applied for the Fuld, and if so, have you heard anything yet?

I applied for Woodruff which was due 1/15/10 and I haven't heard a peep. Good luck w/ your Fuld.

Hey lyneiwoodard,

Thanks for all the info:D! Following this thread has really helped me get a sense of what Emory's nursing program is like. I was wondering what the studying is like, it seems like the week is pretty full (according to your schedule for the first semester). Is there enough time to study between classes or do you feel like you are always cramming it in? I guess what I'm trying to ask is time a really big factor and not just the material.

Also do you feel supported by the faculty or kind of on your own? I've read other threads that say at Emory they felt like no one cared about them. I feel like I was lucky to be accepted and more on the average side, I'm worried that I might get in over my head. Any tips on how to manage time and classes?

Thanks:)

Hi,

First let me say that everyone's experience is different. However, I think that the staff is supportive. Keep in mind there are bad apples in every bunch so all of your experiences won't be peachy. If you think about it anything worth it's grain is never easy. The instructors are not at the school to serve our every desire just because we paid the price of a new car just to go to the school. It was our choice to go to the school and pay for the school as well. What I am trying to say is there are no hand outs but they do give hand ups. They will help you but you have to be willing to build the relationships with the instructors and show that you are really putting forth an effort. If you are having problems communication is the key and not late communication. As soon as you have trouble in a subject that is the time to see the tutors and the instructor. Remember you only have 3 test in some and one midterm and a final in others (get my drift). Time is a factor. This school is about time management. I can tell you from my clinical rotations so is nursing. The only time you have between classes is lunch. This is not set up like undergrad. You go from one class to the next with a one hour lunch break where all you want to do is sit around and do something mindless unless you have an exam in the next class. You must be organized and have a planner to write out your life BOTTOM LINE!!! There is way too much going on for you to try to keep up with it in your head. If you try to do that your head will bust (believe me a couple of ours did last semester). I think you all will do fine because you are already doing the research and getting prepared. Everything will need to have a proper place when school begins. The first semester is the hardest but I know and NHWSON knows you guys can do it otherwise you would not have been accepted!!

Thank you for your insight! We're all curious and self-doubt rules the day! But like my mother-in-law says (NICU for 20 years and didn't start until 40!), take baby steps and you'll get there.

hey... does anyone know when they are supposed to give us an answer about financial aid and NEAT? :)

No I was wondering the same thing. I am going to try going back through last years thread and check the dates.

That's funny, I just finished reading last years thread and it seems anywhere between mid April to June.

Jeeze that is a long wait but I guess I might as well get used to it!!!!!
