Emory Nursing Students!!!!

Hey everyone,

I have applied to the NHWSoN begining Fall 2010. I submited my application packet the first week of September. I am already CrAzY with anxiety. When did you folks here that you were accepted. How soon after you applied?

I met with an advisor last month and she said I should have no problem getting in. I am an Emory employee. I have been a Nurse Tech for ten years (not all at Emory). The 3 letters of recommendation were from: my A&P teacher, another teacher of health sciences, and my boss who is MSN, RN, FNP-C.

I have always wanted to be an Emory Nurse!!!!! Hopefully my dream will come true soon!!!!

Please let me know when you applied to the program and when you got your accpt. letter........jasonwalkeratl

Yikes!! That is a long time to wait!! Oh wow i hope it doesn't take them that long to figure it all out. :)

Wouldn't they have to let everyone about NEAT and financial aid by May 1st? That is when acceptance fee is due??? I think most people knew by mid April?

I'm attending the ABSN/MSN, and we haven't gotten any info from the school yet. We are starting mid-May, and several us are still in school and graduating in May. I wanted to make sure that we are supposed to get our Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (aka CPR ect certification) from the American Heart Association before we attend orientation. I have been reading over the BSN handbook and catalogs for information. I know it might seem like I am trying to uper prepare but having to work around a class schedule and is confining my preparation to spring break, which is in two weeks. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Yes, each one of you needs to have your BLS card. It does need to come from THE RED CROSS or i think the AMERICAN HEART is okay as well. They will be looking for those cards during orientation. They will make copies to put on record. You cannot start clinicals without it. Being that you guys are going to be on the fast track you will not have time to run around and try to do this once school begins. Please put that information out on the thread that was started for your group which I belive is "all nurses emory fall 2010 absn." I would also say to have that group read this thread because it has alot of helpful information. You will be going through the same program I am going through now with just some minor changes here and there. We have BSN-MSN students in my class now. You guys will join on with them at some point. We graduate in 2011 (BSN) and then you all should merge together at that point. School starts soon for you all and I know you are excited. I'm here to answer any questions you may have. Alot of the normal questions you may find an answers to in this thread. If you don't find your question/answer let me know and I'll try to help!!

Hey,

Just for clarification the BLS card can be from the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION. That is where my card is from and that was acceptable. I belive this is the agency of choice for the school so I would stick with this to be on the safe side!!!

I've loved all the info on the thread. We now have a facebook group for our class, which makes its easier to have smaller threads with specific subjects rather than one giant thread that you have to hunt through to find that one piece of info you are looking for. Plus we can also friend each other and send messages. I'll post on allnurses.com if I come up with any questions that haven't already been asked on the thread though. Thanks.

Hey ACorEtACri! What is the name of the Facebook group? I would love to join :)

The facebook group name is Emory Nursing ABSN/MSN 2010.

No problem!!!

Glad I could help. A Facebook group sounds great!!! I'll be here if you need anything else!!!

Be Good!!!

Hey lyneiwoodard,

This is kind of a weird question but do you have any of the syllabuses from the first or any semesters? Or know where I could find them? You've already done a pretty thorough job of explaining it but I'd love to know exactly what the real deal looks like if I can before the program starts :). My email is [email protected].

Thanks so much for all your help!:yeah:

Hello,

I don't have a one from first semester because they were all online.Which..... you do or will have access to in a while but the classes or information does not show up until a week or a few days before the start of school. Also the thing is you get the content in the class and they are mostly on power points. During the first semester I only used a book for maybe two classes. The same instructors we had may not teach the same subject for you all. Like I said we use alot of power points in class and sometimes the instructors are guest and you don't get their power points until the day before or when the class starts. I guess what I am trying to say is even if I had the syllabus it wouldn't really benifit you because the content you study comes from what ever instructor is teacing that subject? So basically when we have a class we have to wait and see what the instructor is going to focus on and that will let us know what to study. The books are just helpers(if you even use them) but the information from the class is what you need!! I'm sorry  !! I can tell you this. If you pick up your anatomy book and really focus on cell growth, bone structure and growth, immune system, heart, lungs, and digestive system it will help alot. What you will learn will build on top of these areas you learned in anatomy. What we learn now is how these areas are affected by disease process. Another thing I did is I brought a book called Medical-Surgical Nursing DeMystified and started learning about different diseases before I came to school which helped alot. Also one last thing you REALLY want to focus on is your APA writting format. If you Google "purdue owl" and spend sometime on there it will help alot. The school is BIG on proper APA writting. I mean BIG!!!! Emory is a research university and so learning how to write correctly is something that you will benifit from grade wise!!! And don't forget that med-math!! I'm sorry I could not be of more service on the syllabus portion but the lecture content is something that is just going to come based on what the instructors decide to do for the next class. The seniors (this year) did not have all of the same instructors we have as (juniors). I hope this helps some??

Hey lyneiwoodard!

you have been a tremendous help to us all and i just want to say thank you for all your info and help :)

i have a question about the med-math book. Which one should we get, or which one do they require?

Thank you so much once again :p
