Emory D-ABSN 2021

Has anyone else applied for Emory’s Distance- Accelerated BSN for Spring 2021?

I submitted my application and materials prior to the priority deadline. Waiting to hear back on Nov. 13th. Fingers crossed!

You dodge a bullet with this one! Trust me, there are other programs out there that offer the same education for a cheaper price. It might take three extra months, but it will be worth it to avoid the DABSN program.

I am hearing similar complaints from another accelerated program that I have applied to here in Northern Ca. For the cost of these programs it is discouraging to hear nursing students are disappointed! I appreciate your feedback.

A lot of the problems go beyond just clinical aspects. A lot of the problems were not clear until returning from the first Atlanta trip.

Is the first Atlanta trip two weeks? Or is that at the end? Have they told you yet what they will do to ensure you're getting your clinical hours?

There are only supposed to be 2 trips, 2 weeks at the beginning and 2 weeks at the end. Some people have had to come back multiple times though because lack of ability to find clinical placements. My only point of confusion is they accepted us into the program knowing where we lived, so if they couldn't find placements in that area why would they accept students there? It's very hard for those with families especially when the dates are only given to use a month or two ahead of time.

Some students have had to work as many as 6 12 hour shifts in a row to get in the hours that they need. Which is a concern for student's mental and physical health, but also for patient safety. We also have students in our cohort driving up to 3 hours away for their placements. Also most of the hours are done on a general med-surg floor.

@rose453 how or where did you see your application status? I reached out to the admissions and they gave the standard response that it takes 8 weeks to review an application.

The web address is opus.emory.edu. I set this up through the main Emory website. Go to their website and search for the student portal, you’ll be able to access it that way. That’s how I think we will be hearing back about our application status.

Have what cohort are you in ? Could you explain this further ? I know once clinicals starts we only have actual classes two days a week. So how many days are clinicals each week and for how many hours ? I keep seeing varying answers . Is it one 12 hr shift a week or multiple ?

I’ll be graduating in August. This semester we still have three days of classes and need to complete 8 12 hour shifts in this session. Most students are having to do 2 shifts per week. It varies depending on the session and the student. Nothing is ever consistent student to student.

so for the first semester of clinicals how many were most students doing a week? one or two clinical shifts and for how long?

Only two students in my cohort had clinical placements and they were going about twice per week. They are always 12-hour shifts.
