Has anyone else applied for Emory’s Distance- Accelerated BSN for Spring 2021?
I submitted my application and materials prior to the priority deadline. Waiting to hear back on Nov. 13th. Fingers crossed!

I reached out to my financial aid advisor, but just said I qualified for the standard unsubsidized/subsidized $12.5k per year. They mentioned there are very limited merit scholarships that are v competitive. I’m committed to the May cohort at the moment, but waiting on one other school. I don’t think anyone has started a FB group, but I didn’t see that many people for the May cohort at the admitted students day either. Also, congrats! Where are you joining from?
Hey Did you accept the admissions yet? I start in May as well someone has created a facebook group now if you need the link?

The Summer 21 cohort is full I believe. We had orientation last week and were told the cohort was full. The only caveat is that could change if people don’t fulfill their compliance requirements, which would open up some spots. Compliance is due by May 1st, classes start May 17th. Hope this is helpful! I don’t know anything about the fall cohort.
Hey by compliance are you referring to the prerequisites and the nonrefundable downpayment? I was told I could have prereqs done by the first day of class not May 1st

I think I requested the FB group, someone just needs to accept me!
No, not prerequisites. For compliance, I mean immunizations, CPR cert, background checks, etc.

1. Are we doing labs and clinicals during the 2 week trip to Atlanta?
2. Do we get a input on where clinicals are done in our hometown? Do they have to be done at the same hospital? When do we start clinicals in the hospital?
3. Besides the 1 week capstone at the end, what NCLEX support do we receive throughout the program?
4. And my last “question” is not really a question. I just want to know what a week looks like for a student in the program, from synchronous class time to studying and clinicals.
I waiting for -------------------- to link me up with a student, and hopefully it’s soon since orientation is next week.
I emailed ------------------- and she gave me a semester breakdown since I’m using GI Bill. She has been really responsive. ------------------------- has also been very helpful.
Hey could you lmk the answers to these questions if you started the program already? I start in may just wondering
Hi everyone! I was hoping someone in the program may be able to help me understand how the semesters are broken down. I emailed the school but am waiting to hear back from them still. I am in Ca and they are not able to place Ca residents with hospitals for our clinicals so I am considering relocating. What I am wondering is how often we are expected to be hospitals, are there specific semesters when this happens or are there clinicals in each semester? I am also curious to hear how everyone is feeling about the distance learning. I appreciate any feedback!! Thanks!

Based on the expected program outline, there are clinicals each semester. All three semesters are broken down into two sessions, for a total of six. First semester includes acute and chronic care I practicum, second semester is acute and chronic care II practicum plus mental health or maternity practicum, and the third semester is pediatrics or complex care practicum. So, yes, there are clinicals each semester. Maybe they would be willing to help you fly to ATL to complete clinicals? However, I'd assume you'd be down there a lot though since there are several clinical hours for the program.

Hey so with the DABSN program even if you moved to Atlanta your clinicals would most likely not be in Atlanta. The program director told me they give priority to the students doing the on campus version of the program for the Atlanta area hospitals first. So like I live an hour outside of Atlanta and instead of driving there for clinicals they are planning to set mine up in either Johns Creek or Gainsville.
Also there is three semesters total and each semester is broken in 2 sessions that are about two months long each to total out to 12 months of the program. For myself starting Summer 2021 classes start May 17 and the first full semester ends August 4th. For this semester classes are three days a week on Tues., Thurs, and Friday. There are no clinicals until the very end where we have to go to a lab at the Atlanta campus this is called the Clinical Skills lab and I was told by the director this is normally two weeks long then we start actual clinicals with your assigned preceptor the semester after. So around August 9th for us May 2021 start date students we would start clinicals.
You can still apply now to start in Fall 2021 because they are on rolling admissions and I have been told they have not filled all 30 student spots yet. If you got in Fall then your first semester would be 8/25/21- 12/12/21 (for RN they have made date changes a few times already due to covid). You can check out this link to see the classes that are offering Fall 2021 and what times/days they are. (https://atlas.emory.edu) It looks like your first semester classes would be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays as well.
Also be sure to email David or Megan they get back faster than anyone else in the nursing department there.
Also they will not fly you to Atlanta for all you clinicals so if you aren't looking to relocate to a state they they can set up student clinicals then I would check out other programs ? the director has said they pay for some peopls hotels if there clinicals are away from them but they would not fly someone out and pay for their hotel for a whole semester worth of clinicals.

Adding on! If you are in a state that does not have or allow outside programs (like CA) and you choose to stay/apply to Emory, you will certainly be asked about your willingness to travel to another site (on your dime) and will sign a form outlining the agreement. For example, several cohort members are in Oregon and some have relocated to Seattle for the program to complete clinicals, while others have simply agreed to travel for the required clinicals. The only way Emory pays for the student to complete clinicals in Atlanta is if they are unable to place you in the agreed upon area. They are thorough in these discussions prior to admissions to ensure everyone is aware of their commitment. Our first and last clinical rotations are in Atlanta - those are included in the tuition. Hope this is helpful!

Yep!
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate all of the information, it has made this process a lot less confusing. I am still waiting to hear back from the DABSN office regarding me currently living in Ca. I am able to relocate which I had told them in email so I am hoping where I currently live won't be a problem. I filled out my application last night and am now waiting for my transcripts to arrive so they can verify me. Does anyone know how long it took for them to get the process started? I know it is a long shot as I am starting this process so late but I am praying I may be considered for the fall start. My other concern is my old grades from literally 20 years ago are hurting my cumulative GPA. My current work is all A's and B's and I scored high on the TEAS. They said the TEAS score was not necessary but I sent it in anyhow to hopefully show them the student I am now. Regardless I am worried my cumulative GPA may make me a no go....my science GPA is fine though. Has anyone heard how many spots they may still have open for fall?
