Emory applicant for 2011

Published

Greetings everyone:

I just sent in my application for Emory University for next year. I was wondering if anyone else has applied or are planning to apply. Currently, I am taking classes at GPC. I would love to start a little support group. If anyone is a student at Emory and would like to offer some advice it would be much appreciated too. Good luck everyone!

@nikki164 - does Emory accept online science courses? I am hoping to do an online one myself for a last minute pre-req but just want to make sure they aren't going to say it won't count.

hey, they do accept online courses, but I would run the program by them before you enroll, because I don't know if they accept ALL online courses.. this is what she said to me in an email today: "We like to see at least 4 (I'm assuming she means credit hours since I asked how many credits were required) for the lecture and lab combined. The lab can be 1-2 credits."

If you are hoping to do an online course, I'd hope a little more quickly, since it needs to be completed before May 1st, or at the latest first week of May. Classes start MAY 16TH!!!! I feel like a complete idiot, but I think when I looked at the academic calendar during the application cycle, since it didn't say anything in regards to the ABSN/MSN orientation but listed both the BSN and MSN program orientations during the final week of August, I assumed we would start then too. I'm in quite the pickle...

@Nikki,

For just the regular BSN program the pre-reqs need to be completed by the time we start Emory (I am not sure if that is the program you did or not). I sent Amy (admission advisor) an email asking her that and she advised me that as long as it was completed before I started Emory in August it would be fine (again..this is just for the regular BSN program).

I wish everyone luck on the 15th!!! My fingers are crossed!

@nikki164 - good to know. Thanks! You might also do a search on allnurses for online microbiology classes. I have found some places that offered online classes in various threads. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone has checked opus. I checked tonight and I had 5 to do admissions. Listing 5 classes 3 of which I have already completed. 2 I am in the process of completing. Just wanted to see if anybody else has the same thing. I did email one of teh advisors tonight about it.

@sreed73 - yes, I did as well. One of the classes I just sent them a course description to show that the class just had a slightly different name and they cleared it up. Unfortunately, my other ones weren't accepted so I have to take the classes again. (I went to a school that only had narrative evaluations and so we didn't have letter grades and you must have a letter grade for Emory to accept.) At least I have until Aug to clear it up!

thanks everyone for their help.. unfortunately, I applied to the ABSN/MSN program, was accepted, and like like you said @creece, it needs to be completed before you start Emory.. Problem is that the ABSN/MSN program starts May 16th 2011.

@oaktown. thanks for the tip. I asked Katie about those schools though, and she said she never heard of them. I don't know if that's a bad thing though, meaning we can't take them there, or what. I will call her tomorrow to find out more. This is what I said though (just in case you were interested in the same options: (to Katie) "I am exploring different options for the online course. I originally intended to take it at UPhoenix, but I don't know if it will be completed by BEGINNING of May.. Through allnurses.com, I saw that edukan, rio salado, ocean, colorado community college, and a few others were highly regarded. Do you know anything about these?"

Her response: "Unfortunately, I am not familiar with any of those schools. Your prerequisites will need to be completed before classes start on May 16th."

@creece, so do you already have a bachelors in a field other than nursing? I must say, Emory's website is a bit confusing as there is not much difference it seems between the ABSN/MSN track and the BSN/MSN segue.. other than one starts May and the other in August.

Hey there. I submitted my application for the ABSN program the first week of November. I'm interested in doing the PNP specialty. I am also completing prereqs at GPC. After this semester I will only have CHEM II remaining, which I plan to take in the Spring.

Which program did you apply for ABSN, Segue, or BSN?

I absolutely hate that we won't find anything out until February 2011. This is gonna be a long 2.5 months.

@T-Dasha, have you taken your Chem II yet?

@nikki164 - I looked at most of those schools at some point! I would say that as long as it is an accredited school, you have a good chance. (Not that I wouldn't double check with them!) But it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that they aren't familiar with the community colleges. Honestly, I would be surprised if they had heard of my community college!

Thanks is the response for everyone being accepted to BSN and 2nd Degree BSN still for the 15 of Feb.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

@nikki164: I'm taking CHEM II now at GPC.
